City Disaster Preparedness
The City of Newport Beach's emergency management program works in coordination with all City Departments to strengthen the City’s ability to prepare for, to mitigate against, to respond to and recover from any disaster. The Fire Department is the lead department to coordinate all emergency management activities for the City.
The City has a comprehensive Emergency Management Program which includes all elements necessary to respond quickly and effectively to major emergencies. These elements include: an Emergency Management Plan, Emergency Operations Center, Employee Response Program, Public Education Program, and trained Community Emergency Response Team (NBCERT) . A variety of activities, programs and projects designed to enhance the City's preparedness are conducted regularly such as training, drills and disaster exercises.

Community Preparedness
In a major disaster, it might be several days before vital services are restored. Newport Beach is exposed to a wide variety of hazards, both natural and manmade. Earthquakes, fires, tsunami, severe storms, power outages, and acts of terrorism are just some of the potential emergencies we may encounter.
Imagine that you have no electricity, no gas, no water and no telephone service. Imagine that all the businesses are closed and you are without any kind of emergency services. What will you do until help arrives? Join the CERT program before a disaster, to learn how to take care of you and your family. For more information visit the CERT program page.
