Welcome to the Public Works Department
Our Mission Statement:
Protecting and providing quality public improvements and services.
Vision Statement:
Public Works ~ A Well-Engineered Machine
Department Overview:
The Public Works Department is responsible for managing a comprehensive and ambitious improvement program designed to meet the current and future needs of the community and to protect the City's physical and natural assets. Capital projects include improvements to the City's roads, intersections, bridges, sidewalks, storm drains, traffic signals, water quality and environmental features, piers, water and sewer systems, streetlighting, public buildings and parks.
Another core service area focuses on the use of engineering expertise to solve problems, promote a safe and efficient transportation system, and serving as a liaison between homeowners and utility companies for processing utility underground assessment districts. Public Works adds quality and safety to our lives through the use of engineered controls and measures such as traffic signals, signage, and pavement maintenance.
Public Works also protects public property from unpermitted encroachments, ensures the safety of utility company activities, private construction and special events in the public right-of-way, and reviews plans for residential and commercial development as they relate to the public right-of-way.
