Engineer organises functions for special children in Sri Lanka

LAHORE: Jimmy Engineer, a well-known social worker, arranged a fun and food programme for special children in Sri Lanka on Saturday.

According to a press release issued on Monday, over 100 children of Mencafet (a family education project) were entertained for more than three hours at Tea Factory Hotel in Nuwara Eliya.

Mr Engineer is currently on a three-week goodwill tour to Sri Lanka, where he is organising fun and food programmes for special children, sponsored by Union Bank of Pakistan in Colombo.

Earlier, he organised fun and food programmes in Negambo, Dambulla and Kandy where singers and musicians entertained more than 400 children with songs and music. Some of the participating children also presented regional and folk dances, national songs and entertained their colleagues.

A magic show was also organised and the magicians kept the young audience spellbound with their tricks. The youngsters were served a sumptuous lunch after the music and magic show.

Mr Engineer said that after organising entertainment programmes for three years in Pakistan, he was planning to organise more programmes in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Malaysia, Singapore and other regional countries.

He said the under privileged people in general, and children in particular, were provided with many facilities in developed countries, but in developing countries they were not even given their rights.

Mr Engineer urged philanthropists to help institutions which give education and training to unprivileged children. The Tea Factory Hotel’s general manager, P Roshanlal Perera, and a representative from Union Bank thanked Mr Engineer for coming up with this idea. They said to entertain under privileged children was a noble cause.
