Hunger strike camp for Zardari, Hashmi
Staff Report
LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), Punjab labour wing, the Asif Ali Zardari Release Committee and the Minority Rights Commission of Pakistan set up a token hunger strike camp on Monday to press the government to release Mr Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Acting President Makhdoom Javid Hashmi. The camp will continue until September 4.
The protestors chanted slogans against the government for detaining Mr Zardari even though the courts had granted him bail. They demanded that the government allow Benazir Bhutto and the Sharif family to return to Pakistan by withdrawing all the “fake” cases registered against them and other PPPP and PML-N workers.
Labour Wing President Abdul Qadir Shaheen and Zardari Release Committee member Arif Shaheen said the governments had detained Mr Zardari illegally by implicating him in false cases.
They appealed to national and foreign rights watchdogs to check the alleged violation of human rights in the detention Mr Zardari and Mr Hashmi and pressure the government to release them.
