Commencement
Commencement Exercises are the capstone ceremony for LSMSA students.  Surrounded by faculty, staff, juniors, sophomores, parents, family, and alumni, the soon-to-be graduates are celebrated in a way that is as meaningful and unique as the students' experiences at LSMSA.  Everyone knows that a diploma from LSMSA is earned, not given, and that it signifies both academic and personal accomplishments.  That is why, in addition to the state's standard high school diploma, each graduate receives a separate LSMSA diploma.  Alumni tell us that it is this diploma that is framed and hangs proudly in their home or office.

The ceremony begins with a procession of stage guests, faculty, and staff and then the entry of the graduating class.  Following the National Anthem and Pledge, welcoming remarks are made.  Two or three members of the graduating class are selected by an audition to give speeches on behalf of their class.  The commencement speaker for the Class of 2008 is Dr. Rick Olenchak, past President of the National Association for Gifted Children.  Finally, each student is presented and receives his or her diploma "and all of the rights and privileges attached thereto."  The ceremony closes with a final charge from the faculty and the singing of the Alma Mater.
