Doug E. Fresh

Doug E. Fresh, frontman back in the day for his Get Fresh Crew, longtime collaborator with Slick Rick and the original human beatbox, is one of the founding fathers of hip-hop. He also carries a significant amount of street cred with gaming culture geeks like us for sampling the Inspector Gadget theme in "The Show," one of his early singles. "The Show" recently reappeared in a May 2007 episode of American Idol, in which Fresh was on-hand to provide backup on finalist Blake Lewis's rendition of the track.

Fresh also recorded a track - "Spirit" - for the 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II. The song was almost completely cut out of the finished film - only the opening bars are heard - but it did appear in full on the soundtrack. Fresh has contributed his music to a number of other films, including Holes, Brown Sugar, Paid in Full, Biggie and Tupac, The Sixth Man and, most recently, the Beastie Boys doc, Awesome: I F*ckin' Shot That. Fresh also played the record executive in the 1988 cult classic, Tapeheads.
