The first cooperation agreement between Yerevan and Marseille was signed on January 25, 1992, and then it was renewed on January 21, 1994 in Marseille. The same year another cooperation agreement was signed by the City Hall of Yerevan, the RA Ministry of Health and the Benevolent Union of Hospitals of Marseille. The cooperation agreement was re-signed on October 26, 2001. Especially close relations have been established between the Yerevan MedicalUniversity and the 2nd University of Marseille.
As a partner city Yerevan is a member of GOSPEL program / Governance in the context of Sport as social link/ of  CUIDAD program / Cooperation in Urban Development and Dialogue/ together with the cities of Marseille, Mahdia /Tunisia/, Hamburg /Germany/, Split /Croatia/ and Trondhaim /Norway/.
