KAREN KARAPETYAN



Was born on August 14, 1963.
1970-1980 – studied at the secondary school after L.Tolstoy in Yerevan and  finished it.
1980-1985 – studied at Yerevan State University, department of applied mathematics and graduated it with honour.
1985-1996 – worked at the counting centre of the RA State plan, in the association of workers of science and culture. At the same time lectured   at YSU.
1996-1998 – worked as a Deputy Director of SE “Armenergo”.
1998-2001 – was the Director of “Armenergo” CJSC.
In 2001 was assigned the Deputy Minister of the RA Energy.
2001-2010 – was the Chief and the Head of "ArmRusgasindustry" CJSC department.
2009 by the proportionate  list  of  the RPA was elected a member of the Aldermen Council of Yerevan.
December 17, 2010 -  was  elected  the mayor of Yerevan by the Aldermen Council of Yerevan.
In 1989 got a degree of candidate of Economical Science.
In 2006 by the decree of the RA President was awarded with "Anania Shirakatsi" medal.
In 2008 was elected the Chair of the Board of "Areximbank" CJSC.
In 2008 by the decree of the President of NKR was awarded  with "Anania Shirakatsi" medal.
In 2010 received a doctoral degree in Economics, has  got  32  research papers.
Is married, has 3 children.

The mayor organizes his activity through deputy mayors, heads of administrative districts, mayor’s advisers, assistants, press secretary, Yerevan City Hall staff. The mayor  shall carry out the following mandatory powers:
  • organize the activity of the Aldermen Council and the municipality,
  • within his competence take measures to ensure the rights and freedoms of the residents,
  • in accordance with the procedure established by law appoint and dismiss the City Hall Staff Secretary, the heads of structural subdivisions, municipal organizations, administrative districts,
  • submit to the Aldermen Council the annual program of providing the use and alienating the Yerevan-owned property, according to it, manage the Yerevan-owned property, define the  numbering of buildings and constructions of Yerevan,
  • define the residences of the heads of administrative districts’
  • in accordance with the procedure established by law or government independently and on his responsibility organize and supervise the implementation of the authorities delegated by the government,
  • submit to the public annual reports on the activity of the Aldermen Council, on his own activity and on the general social-economic state of Yerevan,
  • carry out the control over the activity of the heads of administrative districts and is responsible for proper implementation of their authorities,
  • carry out the management of the Yerevan-owned substructures and provide their operation,
  • with the right of advisory vote may participate in the meetings of government,
  • other mandatory powers established by the law "On local self-government in the city of Yerevan"…
