Welcome to NinDB
Since 2001, Nintendo Database has been archiving information on videogames developed and published by Nintendo, from their classic arcade hits to the current generation of videogame systems. We cover everything, from the big names such as Mario, Zelda and Pokémon, through forgotten classics such as Balloon Fight and Star Tropics, and even obscure Japan-only games, such as Nazo no Murasamejou and Shin Oni Ga Shima.
News & Updates
22nd March 2008
- Updated Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins again, with the excellent classic cameo of a Nintendo toy, that many of you probably don't know about. I've been doing some research into more Nintendo toys as a result and hope to have something for you soon.
- More Game Boy pages updated: Kirby's Pinball Land, Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, Donkey Kong, Tetris 2, Mario's Picross and Kirby's Dream Land 2 (which comes with a new, obscure cameo).
- And some more for you: Donkey Kong Land, Kirby's Block Ball, Pokémon: Red Green & Blue, Mole Mania and Picross 2.
17th March 2008
- I just discovered I was missing two more cameo screens for Qix (GB), so I have corrected that whole section and added more screenshots.
16th March 2008
- I've been working my way through the Game Boy game pages. Notable updates include:
Qix now has all 5 of the Game Over cameo screens;
X finally has information on the earliest known occurrence of Kazumi Totaka's Song
The updated game pages (so far) are: Super Mario Land, Alleyway, Baseball, Yakuman, Tennis, Tetris, Golf, Solar Striker, Qix, Radar Mission, F-1 Race, Game Boy Wars, Yoshi, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Kirby's Dream Land, X. - Kaeru no Tameni Kaneha Naru, Yoshi's Cookie, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening have also been updated.
- The server seems to be struggling today, so if you're having any problems, they will hopefully be OK soon.
30th January 2008
- I have been doing some work on the Arcade section, and will continue adding to it over the next few days. Especially check out the new game pages for Computer Othello, Block Fever and Monkey Magic. I don't believe any of these games have been MAME'd yet, but if you know any different, I'd love the chance to check them out first-hand!
19th December 2007
- A long overdue update to the Wii section is now complete. Don't expect the usual reams of information, as I'm on a tight time limit here. I will go back and add cameos, easter eggs and further information in the near future.
- A new Third Party Showcase is up. This time, NinDB feature writer Nester tackles Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on Wii.
2nd December 2007
- I have made a start on updating the NES pages. The biggest additions are the European Release List and new secrets (with screenshots) for Donkey Kong, Mario Bros. and F-1 Race. More to come soon!
30th November 2007
- Two new Third Party Showcase reviews by Nester have been released: Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure (Wii) and Contra 4 (DS). Have you bought either of them yet? Or are you hoping to get either of them for Christmas? Why not register at the Nintendo Database Forums and have your say!
20th November 2007
- I came across a neat little secret in Mach Rider on a Japanese website that I hadn't seen before, so I checked it out, added it to the page and updated its layout while I was there. Mini-update!
18th November 2007
- Today sees the relaunch of an old part of the site. Head on over to the Nintendo All-Stars section to see the first four Nintendo character profiles!
16th October 2007
- Notice anything new? Or rather anything old? I made a decision to stop messing around with the site layout and to go back to the classic site layout, tweaked to make it CSS compliant, and with a few new graphical elements thrown in for good measure. I will continue to make small tweaks here and there over time, but I'm tired of having a layout I do not like. So back to basics!
- I have also overhauled the back-end and various parts of the site. It is now going to be much easier for me to work on and update it. This means some bits that people like have gone, and some bits have been changed. It's a shame, but it has to be done if I'm to keep working on the site with my much-reduced free-time. Links to this site's individual pages from Wikipedia may now be broken - if anyone fancies updating them, please do!
- Of course, I have done a complete overhaul of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Cameo Guide, with all of the latest updates (give or take a couple of days). The plan is to update this every once in a while rather than every day - but we'll see what we can do. The SSB and SSBM Cameo Guides have had to be taken down temporarily - but rejoice as I will be reformatting them and improving them so all three guides will have the same layout and much more content!
- There are no less than 20 Third Party Showcase features added, courtesy of Nester (formerly Corey Woods). These should be easier to update now as well.
- I dunno... loads of bits and pieces have changed all over the site, and there'll be a lot more changes coming up, including the return of a fondly remembered part of the site. Stay tuned, my glorious readers!
26th August 2007
- Even more updates to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Cameo Guide, including new characters Pokémon Trainer and Diddy Kong, returning characters and their attacks, and a new Bosses page added.
7th August 2007
- Nearly a month's worth of updates added to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Cameo Guide. Are you able to help identify all the enemies in the Subspace Emissary? If so, NinDB needs your help!
16th July 2007
- Another lovely update to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Cameo Guide, including last Friday's Animal Crossing stage update, and a new section devoted to the game's music.
- Updated the Wii Release Lists, including the regional release lists, but not added new game pages yet.
12th July 2007
- A bunch of new Super Smash Bros. Brawl info has been added, including Donkey Kong and the North American release date! Start saving up for the 3rd December 2007!
10th July 2007
- Another lovely little update to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Cameo Guide. In related news, I have nearly finished the revived SSB cameo guide as well. I expect it will be all done some time this weekend. Not that you should trust my deadlines ;)
6th July 2007
- A new stage has been announced and added to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Cameo Guide.
4th July 2007
- Bowser's Final Smash added to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Cameo Guide, and screenshots of the other characters' Final Smash attacks also posted.
3rd July 2007
- Two updates in two days? Why that hasn't happened in ages! Can you tell I have the week off work? ;) Anyway, Bowser has been confirmed in Brawl, and has been added to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Cameo Guide.
2nd July 2007
- The Super Smash Bros. Brawl Cameo Guide has been completely updated, including today's fantastic announcement about Assist Trophies (essentially, a Poké Ball filled with non-Pokémon Nintendo characters). Go check it out! And I'll get back to working on updates for the other games as well!
28th June 2007
- HAPPY SIXTH BIRTHDAY NINTENDO DATABASE - Yep, the website is six years old today! And I'm actually here to celebrate it! Only an hour left of it here though (I nearly forgot) but American readers have a good few hours of drinking and partying left for this momentous occasion! And no... there are no actual updates planned for today ;)
22nd June 2007
- Check out the improved and elongated pages for Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 (JP), Super Mario Bros. 2 (US) and Super Mario Bros. 3, now with added character, enemy and item information.
- I am also working on greatly improving the SSB Cameo sections. I haven't decided if I want to put up the updates in instalments, or in one big block. And yes, I am aware that my SSBB page is now out of date.
22nd May 2007
- If you weren't already aware, the official Super Smash Bros. website relaunched today, and says it will have an update every weekday! Nintendo Database will, of course, be covering each new detail as it comes up. Continue to check out the Super Smash Bros. Brawl cameos page throughout the coming months, as I will be updating.
2nd March 2007
- Made a bunch of updates to the Kazumi Totaka's Song Guide, including a new appearance found in an Animal Crossing e-Reader minigame, and a videos section linking to contributor Phil Bond's excellent coverage of the song and its new appearances.
28th February 2007
- I'm a little late in posting this, but 3PS #15: R-Type III for the Virtual Console has been lovingly written by Corey Woods.
27th February 2007
- Made a significant update to the History of Nintendo feature, marking out all of the company's developments, adding more dates, and bringing it right up to 2006 (rather than stopping with the launch of Donkey Kong in 1981).
21st February 2007
- Made a few updates to the Wii section, including new releases and updating the handful of game pages while they're still managable.
19th February 2007
- 3PS #14: Elebits has been posted.
15th February 2007
- Because the webmaster has been hounding me for near enough five months, I have finally added Super Mario RPG Legacy to the list of NinDB affiliates! ;)
14th February 2007
- Happy Valentines Day, and Corey Woods is pouring on the love with the 13th Third Party Showcase. This time: Sonic Rush (DS).
- And speaking of the Nintendo DS, I have finally got that section completely up to date with all new game pages for tons of games. Head over and see what Japan's getting that you're not!
- I found out yesterday that I now need glasses for using the computer. They will be ready in about a week, so updates may be a little trim until then.
- Done a few more updates. First off I have tidied up all of the main system pages and regional game lists. Hardware information now lives on the main system page (under software) as I may be planning to cover this - at least the main ones. You may have also noticed that the shouting Jinbe up there in the title has gone, and been replaced with a shiny Home icon. Each system section has a controller icon so you know where you are (so long as you know what the controller looks like!) There we go - we're finally getting there with this website rebuild thing!
4th February 2007
- I have finally updated the Links page. If you requested a link some time over the last several months and it isn't there, then I either lost your email, or your site doesn't seem to exist any more. Drop me a new email with the link again, and I shall put it up (probably in another 6 months time).
- More updates to the Kazumi Totaka's Song Guide.
3rd February 2007
- If the site looks really messed up for those of you who visit frequently - CLEAR YOUR BROWSER CACHE! Or better yet, do a hard refresh - Hold down Ctrl and click the Refresh icon on your browser.
2nd February 2007
- Nintendo Database is proud to present the Third Party Showcase (3PS) feature. Written by Corey Woods, this feature aims to show Nintendo fans that all is not bleak in the world of third party games on Nintendo consoles. The 3PS only focuses on games available for current Nintendo systems - but thanks to the Virtual Console there are also features on retro gems you should be spending Wii Points on. Because of the delay in getting NinDB back online, the 3PS already has 12 entries - so you've got quite a bit of reading to do!
- Notice anything different? I started putting together a new Wii-themed format, but I didn't get around to finishing it before I got back online. Quite a few pages might look a bit wrong for a while, but I'm still working my way through them. Because of the rush to get the site up, I also haven't finalised the look of the menu or even created a NinDB logo! So there will be some more changes to come very soon.
30th January 2007
- Sorry about that folks! I planned to leave a message here announcing that I would be without a home internet connection for the forseeable future (thanks to some unforseeable personal problems). But I forgot, received many emails wondering where I was or whether I had abandoned the website. No, I am now well and truly back!
- First major update of the year 2007: Kazumi Totaka's Song has been found in no less than two games - both games that NinDB has been tirelessly hunting within. It has finally been found in Luigi's Mansion (and not whistled!) and also in X - the first known Nintendo game that Kazumi Totaka worked on, thus kicking Mario Paint off the song's debut spot. X is now the first game the song appears in ever. So stop calling it the Mario Paint Song, you nutters!
- Big updates on the way. I've been working on a new look for the site lately, giving it a spit and polish. It's not ready yet though, but you will notice when it is. It's quite considerably different.
- I am proud to announce that I will soon (very soon) be introducing a new feature writer into the hallowed halls of Nintendo Database - Corey Woods will be providing the Third Party Showcase (3PS), showing you nutty Nintendo fans that excellent third party gaming is available on current Nintendo consoles, and that you should be buying and playing them if you really want to see more third party goodness coming our way. Corey has been writing about third party games on the NinDB forums for a while now, and he has certainly convinced me to invest in a few nuggets I may have otherwise skipped. Don't be afraid, however - it's just a feature - I have no plans to change NinDB into a third-party gaming site or anything ;)
- The Wii section is now up to date!! Includes new cameos for Wii Sports, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Wii Play and of course WarioWare: Smooth Moves. If you're interested in that kind of thing, of course.
Update Archive
The following pages list all of the updates made to Nintendo Database since it opened in July 2001. The updates are listed by year, so each page is text-heavy and may take a while to load.
