Information
The Game Boy Advance handheld videogame system was released in 2001 and boasted graphics and sound comparable to those of the Super NES. The GBA is also compatible with Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.
After complaints about the Game Boy Advance's dark screen and slightly bulky size plagued the system, the redesigned Game Boy Advance SP arrived. The new-look system sported a space-saving flip-top design, rechargable battery, and a backlit screen.
In 2005 the Game Boy Micro was released. Now even smaller and only able to play Game Boy Advance titles, the system's sales continued, even with the arrival of the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP in the handheld market.
Nintendo has released many games from its most popular series on the Game Boy Advance, including the ever-popular Pokémon. The Game Boy Advance is also the system of choice for the retro gamer, with many remakes and reissues, such as the budget Famicom Mini series (Classic NES Series in the US), celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Famicom with a selection of classic games.
