Climbers invited to international meet in Norway

 The Norwegian Alpine Club (NTK) is inviting two climbers from each UIAA member federation to take part in an international winter meet in the Lofoten islands, in the north of Norway, from March 8-15, 2009.

 


Slovenia invites ski mountaineers to youth camp

The Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS) is inviting young mountaineers to a ski touring camp in Slovenia from March 1 – March 7, 2009. The event will be next year's first Global Youth Summit event.



Pit Schubert honoured for lifetime contributions to safety

 Engineer and mountaineer Pit Schubert  has been elected the UIAA's latest honorary member, in thanks for his extensive work on making the sport safer. The German climber played a major role in establishing the UIAA Safety Label standards for mountaineering equipment.

From 1973 until 2004, Schubert was a member of the UIAA Safety Commission and for the last eight years he served as president. He founded the Safety Commission of the German Alpine Association (DAV) in 1968 and was the association's safety director for 32 years.  

Originally Pit Schubert trained as a mechanical engineer and worked for 15 years in the aeronautics and space industries. 



UIAA nominates Dawa Steven Sherpa for IOC award

The UIAA has nominated Dawa Steven Sherpa for the IOC Environmental Award, which recognises and encourages the implementation of good environmental practices in the field of sport.



The season for ice
