Expeditions

In this section we have collected useful information for those planning an expedition. Here you can read about the greater ranges and other major geographical areas for mountaineering. You will also find information about permits, booking and regulations in the different countries.

We are currently working to improve and expand this section of the web site. By doing this, we hope to make expeditions more attractive and easy to plan, especially for young climbers and small teams.

The UIAA is concerned about expedition ethics and protection of the environment in expedition areas. For advice, please download the Recommended Code of Practice for High Altitude Guided Commercial Expeditions (1998) as well as our The Ethical Code for Expeditions (1987).

We would also like to draw your attention to the document Guidelines  to eco-compatible expeditions. These Guidelines were compiled from the experience gained through the research project “Definition and application of eco-compatibility criteria for setting up an Environmental Management System for the Italian expedition to K2 in 2004”. The study was promoted by the Department of Commodities Sciences of the University of Turin, carried out with the financial and organisational support of the National Mountain Institute – IMONT – and developed in collaboration with the Ev-K2-CNR Committee through the “K2 Project 2004 – 50 years later”.
