The IRMA Honours 2004

IRMA honours Christy Moore

On Friday 27th February saw the inaugural IRMA Honours being awarded to Christy Moore, for his remarkable achievements and contribution to Irish Music over the last forty years. The black tie gala event, sponsored by MasterCard, was attended by a host of stars from the world of music and entertainment including Edge, Ali Hewson, Guggi, Rasher, Brenda Fricker, Paul McGrath, D-Side, Paddy Casey, Damien Dempsey, Neil Hannon, Joe Dolan & David Kitt.

A surprise guest for Christy was Edge, who is obviously a huge admirer of his work."There is no-one like Christy Moore. It's only when you hear Christy that you really get it because the man is totally unique." Edge presented Christy with the beautiful statue that was designed by Tanya Nyegaard.

In excess of €100,000 was raised for charity with the auction of 7 very special pieces of art. Rasher’s ‘’Poppies’’ raised €12,000, while the Francis Bacon print went for €10,000. Edge's hand-painted guitar, raised €15,000. The two worthwhile charities that will benefit from this great event are The Chernobyl Children's Project and Crumlin Children's Hospital.

Christy performed a short set of his most popular songs for the audience which included 'Ride On', 'Black is the Colour' and 'Nancy Spain'. He recieved a standing ovation from the 600 guests who were all there to honour to this great man.
