1963 - The Beatles single 'She Loves You' charted. It had record breaking advance orders of 310,000.

 

AUG 30

1941 - The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra held the Top3 rungs on the US best sellers with 'Green Eyes', 'Yours' and 'Maria Elena'.

 

AUG 31

1996 - A record breaking four singles entered the UK chart in the Top 5. Only the Spice Girls' debut 'Wannabe' managed to retain a place from the previous week.

2001 – Janet Jackson scored her 28th US Top 10 entry with ‘Someone To Call My Lover’ thus passing the tally of 27 achieved by her brother Michael!

1995 – Capitol Records in the USA pressed two million copies of The Beatles’ Anthology 1 album pre-release – a record for recordings of that age.

1948 – Four versions of the song ‘It’s Magic’, from Doris Day’s first movie, ‘Romance On The High Seas’, were simultaneously in the US Top 20. Acts involved were Dick Haymes, Tony Martin, Gordon MacRae and Doris herself, who led the pack.

1998 – ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’ by Aerosmith became the first single by a rock act to enter the US Hot 100 at No. 1.
