Illegal Stamps

Any stamp not authorized by an issuing country is illegal, including those purporting to be from territories of larger countries. For a complete explanation and set of definitions around illegal stamps see our Notes page.
Universal Postal Union

Countries that are the subject of illegal stamps will traditionally issue circulars through the Universal Postal Union. The entries below are linked to the applicable circular where appropriate. Circulars may refer to the problem in general from the applicable country or may refer to the specific illegal stamp issue.

Territorial Entities of Russia - Illegal Stamps
Illegal postage stamp issues produced in the name of territorial entities of the Russian Federation. Note that since these territories "...form an integral part of the Russian Federation..[and hence]..they are not authorized to issue postage stamps independently."
