Lava II Distribution

The distribution of Lava II contains the lavac compiler, installation instructions (in the Readme file), test suites and (since version 0.19) the example presented at the Lava demo at ECOOP 2002. See the lavac description for a quick overview of features, an account of their current state of implementation and of the differences between the following versions:

After the download you might want to register for the lava-talk and lava-news mailing list.

Optional Support Packages

If you want to run the Lava II test suites or if you want to extend them in order to expose a bug you need some third-party packages (JUnit and BCEL), which are provided for convenience in

This archive does not need to be reloaded with every new release (it does not need to be loaded at all if you just want to use Lava). See section 5 of the Readme file in the Lava II distribution for information on how to install, use and extend the test suites.

Lava I Download (obsolete)

For historical completness we provide also links to an implementation of the initial design of Lava, Lava I, version 0.54. However, be aware that it is pre-alpha software whose development has been stoped in 1998. The two archives contain modified implementations of the compiler and JVM of JDK 1.0.2 from Sun Microsystems, which may be used only for evaluation purposes:
