59 Dispelling Illusions
In a context of containment we utilise influence

The mud from which 59 has emerged is best described by analogy to the under-stated qualities of hexagram 60, standardisations.

Commentary :

In hexagram 59 a gentle change can be used to soften any defense mechanism. Once a crack appears the influence strengthens by slipping through the crack and working from within. This form of release is far more subtle and long term than 37/40 and is associated with the obscuration of 55 where the abundance of the harvest can obscure things. It involves the concept of trust and penetrating defenses leading to the ability to clear things away - to dispel illusions. Contextually we combine articulation/standards (60) with establishing uniformity (07) to dispel illusions.

Goal of 59 - hexagram 42 (or 'how do I 42? - 59')

Five-Phase Relationships : The trigram of Water reflects Consumption. The trigram of Wind reflects Production (through re-production, cultivation). This relationship is expressed as dispelling illusions as well as the concept of what is consumed not being final, it gets broken down, used, and so 'evaporates' and the 'need' for more continues.

59 is the goal of 61 (or 'how do I 59? - 61' How do I dispel illusions? By being sympathetic/empathetic to/with others - to be 'true' to self and others)

Some PAIRINGS of hexagram 59 with other hexagrams:

The overall focus in this pair is on some form of perceived clarity, be it through social acts in the form of rote learning etc (29) or else the act of dispelling illusions (59). Overall, hexagram 29 has focus on integration (and so a comment on the dangers of rote learning etc) whereas hexagram 59 focuses on differentiations, on a particular 'fact' that emerges once the 'fog' has cleared.
Just as 59 reflects the dispelling of illusions through clearing things away, so 55 reflects the development through excessive growth.

At the LOCAL level we are dealing with an octet of hexagrams with WATER as base. The association is between 40 and 59 where the exaggerated sense of loosening structure is reflected in a more balanced format through the dispelling of illusions.

This pairing reflects an overall focus on issues of establishing 'clarity', be it through the imposition of standards (60), or the active dispelling of illusions (59).

MAKE THINGS CLEAR:
