55 Abounding,Overflowing,Diversity
In a context of guidance we utilise (sudden) awareness.

Trigrams : guidance (bottom), awareness (top) : with/from guidance comes awareness. [thunder over fire]

The mud from which 55 has emerged is best described by analogy to the under-stated qualities of hexagram 56 - loyalty.

A situation of diverse times demands selectivity.

Commentary :

Cooperative Format : In hexagram 55, once one has reached a peak, it follows that we head towards the down cycle. Here, tension is at it's peak pending a conscious release and these 'social outbreaks' need controlling - An arousing influence with guidance. In the image, current ideologies have led to an outbreak of crimes which need to be contained.

In the line comments, the continuing use of the term "Sun-centering", meaning midday, emphasizes reaching a peak.

Oppositional Format : Hexagram 55 manifests thunder against fire.

Structural Relationship (Being) : Hexagram 55 is the opposite of hexagram 59 where 55 manifests overgrowth and so the possibility of obscuring things and 59 manifests the clearing away of obscuring, the dispelling of illusions. Overall the emphasis is on the diversity of things, the overgrowth that comes with harvest time such that the valued can become hidden, obscured by this overgrowth but also the diversity itself as demonstrating the reaching of a peak and over-exuberance.

Temporal Relationship (Doing) : The goal of 55 is hexagram 62 (or 'how do I 62? - 55') - how do I over-exaggerate traditions? focus on 'overflowing' with exuberance.

Five-Phase Relationship : The trigram of Fire reflects the distribution phase. The trigram of Thunder reflects the 'raw' production phase. The overall theme is twofold - (a) the distribution of production leads to abundance BUT it also reflects OVER-production - too much and so possible problems (just as there is too much 'good' so there will also be too much 'bad')

55 is the goal of 32 (or 'how do I 55? - 32' How do I 'overflow' with exuberance? Commit)

Some PAIRINGS of hexagram 55 and other hexagrams:

GOING BEYOND:

55 : going beyond - through overflow, abundance, diversity; 55 abundance, diversity comes from a context described by hexagram 56 - loyalty

56 : going beyond - through loyalty, stay focused; 56 loyalty comes from a context described by hexagram 55 - diversity
This pairing reflects the general notion of expansion of a boundary, a container - be it in the unconditional overflowing of 55 or the conditional focus on an ideological focus in 30.
At the general level this pair reflects issues of dealing with a 'fog' of data., with 59 taking the approach of lifting the fog to dispel illusions. At the LOCAL level we are dealing with an octet of hexagrams with FIRE as the base. Here 55 'opposes' 37 where the exaggerated sense of abundance and diversity (and so potential overflow) is reflected in a more balanced format by a focus on rigid structuring (37).
This pairing reflects issues of hierarchy and so of 'knowing one's place'. The rigidity, the conduct required to maintain the hierarchy is reflected in hexagram 10. In 55 the increase in diversity, in abundance, has led to a sense of overflow and so potentials for situations to 'exceed' their place, and so intrude into others and as such threaten the hierarchy (just as there are more rich people, so there are more thieves).
A combination of establishing an ideology (30) with that of maintaining loyalty (56) is reflected in the characteristics of hexagram 55 where the diversity present is dealt-with.
