In the context of cultivation we utilise awareness.

The mud from which 32 has emerged is best described by analogy to the under-stated qualities of hexagram 14 - directing from the centre.

A situation covering issues of commitment

Commentary :

Cooperative Format : Hexagram 32 is the point of balance between the two main hexagrams of transition (51,57). We are as far away as possible from the moment of transition. We experience duration in a social context of an enduring relationship; the idea of commitment. Contextually, we develop from a raw sense of direction (14) that becomes seductive (44), leading to wholehearted commitment.

(The four hexagrams (51,32,42,57) deal with the cyclic nature of transitions. As influenced by their base trigrams).

Oppositional Format : Hexagram 32 is thunder against wind.

Structural Relationship (Being) : Hexagram 32 is the opposite of hexagram 42.

Temporal Relationship (Doing) : The goal of 32 is hexagram 55 (or 'how do I 55? - 32')

Five-Phase Relationship : The trigram of Wind reflects manufactured production, a need to cultivate. The trigram of Thunder reflects raw production, the 'new'. The overall focus is on commitment to production or more so to reproduction ('self-renewing').

Some PAIRINGS of hexagram 32 and other hexagrams:

In this pairing both hexagrams focus on issues of commitment, be it the intensity in the wooing of 31 (and so an overall differentiating focus) or the general sense of commitment reflected in 32 (and so an overall integrating focus).

COMMIT:

31 : commit (gradual) - through to someone; 31 wooing comes from a context described by hexagram 13 - loose associations

32 : commit (sudden) - through to something; 32 committing comes from a context described by hexagram 14 - centered associations, directing

This pairing reflects the benefits of delay that lead to refinements - be it in the unconditional commitment expressed in 32, or the particular, and so conditional 'cooking' of 50.
At the LOCAL level we are dealing with an octet of hexagrams with WIND as base. The association here is of 32 with 57, where the exaggerated sense of commitment is reflected in a more balanced format in the form of the 'gentle' influence of the wind on cultivation and becoming influential.
A combination of a focus on transformation ('cook before you eat' - 50) and a focus on moving forwards, a sense of clear direction (14) is reflected in the sense of total commitment expressed in hexagram 32.
