REPORT: You're not owed any UMvC3 character!

REPORT: You're not owed any UMvC3 character! photo

Destructoid has uncovered some mindblowing news that will shock and awe the gaming community -- we have discovered, through serious JOURNALISM, that Capcom does not owe you Mega Man or any other character in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

"It's been an open secret for a long time," said an industry figure who is definitely not made up. "When we make a videogame, we don't need permission from fans to put in the characters we want. If Capcom wants to include Firebrand and not Mega Man, based on what will make a more balanced videogame, it can do that, because Capcom's making the game. Not the fans."

Our reports show that at least 75% of fans don't understand that they are not executive producers for the videogames they like, and as such, have no creative control. Studies indicate they also fail to grasp that if their favorite Capcom character isn't considered good enough for UMvC3, that's something the industry calls "Tough Shit."

We'll have more on this breaking story as it develops, including reports that Capcom isn't holding a gun to anybody's cock and forcing them to buy UMvC3 if they don't like it.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

Cue popcorn!
Something about this headline makes the article seem more professional. Not sure what it is.
Alright, what poor Capcom rep did you guys get drunk at Comic-Con?
Man I'm glad there isn't a gun on my cock.
Yes. Sometimes, Jim, I still love you.
Why did they cancel MML3 again?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

*deep breath*

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This guy basically said exactly what I'm thinking everytime I see shit like 'NO MAI, NO BUY!' or 'NO ELENA, NO BUY!' and especially all the mega man crybabies as of late. Hell, I even said 'No T.Hawk, no buy!' on the last Street Fighter X Tekken article but I sure as shot WILL be buying the game and have never once thought a developer(other than VALVe) has ever given a flying fuck about us, the consumer.
Oh dear god this is going to get ugly.
Firebrand > Megaman any day.
Shit* not shot (fuck iPhone) also, inb4 180 replies.
Sounds about right to me.
I just wish my cock was a gun. I'd love to shoot Capcom in the butt for not including Papa Smurf. They hate their fans so hard.
That sounds like something Tim would say, he's on the 3rd floor first cubicle on the left, usually wears a blue tie, 2 sugar 1 cream.

BUt if 100,000 people will re-buy the game BECAUSE a character is in it then they will listen to the fans.
Who cares about Mega Man in a fighting game? I'm a fan of him in Marvel 1 and 2, but meh...there's enough fighters there, guys!
"Self-Entitlement" is practically gaming's middle name. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who think they get to decide everything that goes into a game.
"Fuck what the fans want, because they'll buy it regardless!"

Brilliant.
Sounds more than right, people need to stop being such little bitches and accept what they can get. If they don't like it start your own game stuido and make your own game, simple as taking a shit!
At least people will shut up about Phoenix Wright and Frank West, though. So there's that.
Our reports show that at least 75% of fans don't understand that they are not executive producers for the videogames they like, and as such, have no creative control.

So all those progress and expense reports I filed went nowhere? Well crap...
Oh this made my bifurcated lobster heart swell with happiness.
"...because Capcom's making the game. Not the fans."

This game, but not Legends 3. Apparently that game got canceled because clearly the fans were making it and we didn't work hard enough.

While I still hold venom for Capcom I could care less about Mega Man in UMvC3. The roster is already pretty amazing, we've got Phoenix fucking Wright dammit.
I deeply appreciate this article. Not because I necessarily think Capcom fans need to be crucified, but in general, the editorial writing in the game industry so often comes across as so pandering, so masturbatory that it feeds into the gaming culture in a way which I think puts players at odds with the creative minds behind the games they love.
In other words, they don't give a fuck of what we want.
"We'll have more on this breaking story as it develops, including reports that Capcom isn't holding a gun to anybody's cock and forcing them to buy UMvC3 if they don't like it."

My major complaint with UMvC3 is the quick turnaround and the lack of DLC availability. The lack of Mega Man just makes it easier for me to skip it. No more of my money is going into this bankrupt franchise.
@TheCheese33: "Self-Entitlement" is practically gaming's middle name.

Actually, I remember when I was a kid, way back when, we took what we got and shutted(tm), the fuck up.

@Janklogs: Hey! I trademarked Crapcom! Don't make me sue you. :D
Sure this is true and all but...how does Pheonix Wright make sense over Mega Man in a fighting game? How would that make it "more balanced"? I see the point but the way the guy went about explaining it is flawed.

On the other hand I don't see a problem in fans telling a company what they'd like included in a game...especially when that thing is basically the company's mascot.
My issue with UMvC3 wasn't the extra characters, but the stuff like the amateurish user interface, lack of extra modes, spartan tutorials and an online multiplayer implementation that ranges between primitive and terrible. All these problems, coming from the same company who made the vastly more refined SSFIV, you'll forgive me for getting the impression they were holding a lot of these things back to make the second edition more substantial (as the announcement for the much needed spectator mode has led me to believe). Also, I fear releasing an upgrade so soon will divide the community much earlier than it should have.
Thats all fine and good,I would rather them surprise me than to know exactly what character we are getting next, but it begs the question, why in the hell would they bother having character polls if they were going to ignore them from the beginning?
Well said sir. God forbid they add fresh new characters instead of just rehashing the same ones over and over. The game already has plenty of 'old faithful' characters. Learn to embrace change!
@killias2 I know, right? One minor massive natural disaster and their DLC release schedule goes to pot.

The slackers.
Simple answer is I am not owed anything, but I refuse to buy a game that has made decisions that I don't like.

Simply put, I am hard pressed to hand over any money to the fools that canceled MML3.

... And this is surprisingly easy. Boycotts aren't as hard as I thought.
I don't have any problems with the character roster, I just feel kinda like I'm stuck up shit creek without a paddle.

Having purchased the original MvC3, and being heavily invested in the franchise as a whole, I just don't want to buy another game to get the tweaks, patches and new content. I don't feel like I'm privileged to extras by any means, and I guess you could argue it was foolish of me to buy the original version instead of waiting for the inevitable upgraded edition, but if Mega Man Legends 3 taught us anything its that Capcom won't produce a franchise it feels won't get supported.

So I suppose for future Capcom releases, I just won't buy them until they've released the "Gold" edition or whatever. Lesson learned, I suppose.
Vote with dollars people.
I can imagine that Sterling's presentation and attitude has something to do with how Capcom responds to him.

Pushing peoples buttons sure is easy as a gamer.
So its ok to criticise the 3DS when Nintendo isn't doing what we want but its not ok to criticise capcom when they don't do what we want?
hey. if you wan't to sell more, you should seriously start listening to the fans... i bet this game will sell more if you get more iconic characters... for instance, venom, gambit, cyclops, megaman... and lets be honest, sales on classic mvc3 could've been better.... much better... i know alot of people who used to play tons of mvc2, and haven't even played mvc3 because it doesn't include cyclops or venom...
They're racist towards to great race of Luchador's.

That's the only reason why El Fuerte isn't in MvC3. And that's why I won't be buying this trite trash.

Good day sir.
"@killias2 I know, right? One minor massive natural disaster and their DLC release schedule goes to pot.
"

Yeah, because that argument makes any sense whatsoever. Everyone knows that earthquakes and tsunamis make digital distribution impossible, but the creation of hundreds of thousands of discs distributed physically across the entire world through an infrastructure of ships, planes, trucks, trains, and everything else imaginable.. yeah that's disaster-proof.
"but it begs the question, why in the hell would they bother having character polls if they were going to ignore them from the beginning?"

Because that was a fan poll? And has never once been stated to be by Capcom?
Might as well wait, there'll probably be another MvC3 released in about 8 months.

Just...everything that Capcom has been doing has been questionable lately. Everything. I know they only care about making a profit, but this is becoming too much.

They are literally at this point the Activision of Japan.

Which is why they are now Capvision.
Notice how you don't see the questions asked to produce those quotes.
"So its ok to criticise the 3DS when Nintendo isn't doing what we want but its not ok to criticise capcom when they don't do what we want?"

I should think there's quite a blatant difference between acting betrayed over the design decisions of game developers on an optional expansion and being disappointed by a company's total lack of engaging product.

But do carry on, sir!
At least this way we're not bitching over WHICH Megaman they put in.

e.g. MMX ZERO OVER MMZ ZERO? CAPCOM YOU CUNTS.
You know what would make Phoenix Wright a good character? If the Objection! move blocked the last special the opponent used for 5-10 seconds. Objection! No Hadoken. OBJECTION! Phoenix loses her teleport. OBJECTION! Sentinel loses Hyper Sentinel Force.
"So its ok to criticise the 3DS when Nintendo isn't doing what we want but its not ok to criticise capcom when they don't do what we want?"
Nope, Capcom doesn't owe me shit. But if they want my money they're gonna have step their game up, cause they've been fucking up left and right lately.
"Hey Guys! Tell us what charecters you want in MvC3!"
"Megaman"
"Our mascot? Fuck him! Youll take Rocket Raccoon and like it. Now buy this and the other 500 fighters that we are putting out this year"
Pretty much the story.

Really, if you so badly want to have that input on the game's development, cough up the cash and be a producer.

It ain't cheap, but neither is making a game.
Wait wait wait ... so they cancel MML3 for the BS reason that they didn't get enough input from the fans .... but then go off all "because Capcom's making the game. Not the fans." with UMvC3.....

Seriously pick a position and stick with it crapcom.
