Saber Interactive and Old School Games have unveiled God Mode, a third-person shooter coming to PC, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade early next year in which you, a mortal descendant of a god, must survive the Maze of Hades. That might not sound great on paper, but IGN has the debut trailer and I can see potential. Shooting skeletons sounds good to me, anyway.
If you hadn't heard of Old School Games before, you're not alone. Studio head Matthew Karch told IGN it "focuses on high quality, low-cost downloadable titles. The studio uses Saber's technology and development platform to create games that look like retail products, but we have kept it as a separate and isolated studio to allow the team to focus exclusively on these types of games."
Now, I don't know that God Mode looks good per se, but it's certainly more interesting than Inversion ever threatened to be. Frankly, there's a real lack of silliness in shooters these days and I'm hopeful this can help fill the void. Atlus' willingness to be a part of the project inspires some confidence as well. Fingers crossed.
