The Jimquisition: The Ten Sh*ttest Games of 2011

Jim Sterling, Reviews Editor
12:00 PM on 12.26.2011

The year is almost out, and we must celebrate it by publishing meaningless award ceremonies. In true Jimquisition style, our noble hero celebrates the crappest of the crap, with the ten shittiest games to have been released in 2011. Oh, revel in the glory.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

I want to touch you Jim.
I think You should Address more shitty games. People need to know what games NOT to buy too.
good god Richard The Wanker or RTW
I heard him talking about a god in the beginning.

I knew he was talking about himself.

You're a video game reviewer.
I don't know why you're whipping your "gigantic" e-penis around.
It's always nice to see someone who shares my sentiment that Assassins Creed is pure shite. God, I hate that game.
@Nobunaga Oda

Yes because gamers have absolutely no right to have opinion other than Jimbo's, right?
"Just copying a line from a movie out of context isn't a joke."

Yeah, please tell that to all of the people who thought Duke Nukem 3d was ever funny as well. I suspect they need to be reminded.
@bobdebicker:

agreed.... the fact that they've just made a fourth game that is essentially the same as the second and third is salt in the wound.

Fuck Ubisoft.... Prince of Persia sands of time was actually good, though.
Eh, I saw DNF getting worst game of the year coming. Sad, because it wasn't all that terrible, and a lot of people probably just followed Jim's review and didn't try it for themselves. To me, "CoJ: The Cartel" was much worse, because it lacked any trace of originality. Guess everyone's entitled to their own opinion though ;S
Worst game I played this year is Thor
@MatthewRD: You get the joke.

Why are you taking it as if it's not a joke?
Was Duke Nukem Forever really that bad? It seems like a disappointment, but I've seen more hate for the other games on the list. I suppose it's because DNF has a legion of white knights behind it.

@MathewRD

You don't watch many of Jim's videos do you?
The bit about the dogs tore me up. Duke Nukem really was a rancid sack of testicles but in a roundabout way I'm happy it exists, because the level and quality of vitriol aimed its way has been a constant source of entertainment. So thanks, Duke, thanks for being so utterly shit.
Jim I swear you said you hate the people who pull the, "see you next year" joke.
I still stand that DNF was not the worse game of the year.

It was more than playable and I didn't have all that bad of a time with it.
Ahh, I agree with the 9 entries, but DNF ?
DNF was Kickass dude !
Oh lawd, a Jim Sterling caused shitstorm right after Christmas? How am I not surprised?
Hard to argue with those choices, they are, indeed, shit.
Gotta disagree with Bloodrayne: Betrayal. I love it in a sort of psychotic way. And the Cartel should have probably been higher.

But, great list. Always love some Duke bashing
"Shat out in a few weeks just to make a quick buck off gullible idiots"

...you do realize that IS Activision's entire business model, right?
"The Call of Juarez games were never great"

Yes they were. Call of Juarez 2: Bound in Blood was fantastic. AAA story. AAA characters. AAA gameplay. It is the epitome of a under-appreciated classic and it is considered by many that I have talked to as a cult classic. It is a great game that even scored plenty of great reviews. You should try it Jim, you may find yourself very surprised by how great the game actually is.

The latest Call of Juarez game was a joke, but Bound in Blood was fantastic. Don't listen to your own sites review, they are dead wrong about the game. To this day, there has never, ever, ever, been a single review that I have disagreed more with than Destructoids review of Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. And I have been gaming for 25 years and reading reviews just as long.
Unlike last year, I agree with all of these. but I would like to add Red Faction: Armagedden, for ruining everything people liked about Guerilla, and Bodycount, for including everything people hated about Black (story, aiming etc.).
Man I didn't mind DNF that much, maybe because I brought it for AU$18. But why in and old school shooter did we get forced to only carry two weapons
If these are the worst games of the year, it really shows just how much better overall games have gotten. Even the worst games aren't that bad. Not like they were in the past. The overall quality of video games is better.

Retro fascists would disagree.
I agree with Lord Nobunaga.....MORE SHITTEST GAMES-CASTS! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
@JohnApocalypse

Yeah but I think games based on movies go without saying unless they turn out to be exceptional somehow.

@MathewRD

You don't seem to know Jim all that well do you? It was a joke man, only a joke.
battlefield is like number 2 ...
It didn't come out this year, but the worst game I played in 2011 was Arcania: Gothic 4. DNF might have sucked horribly, but at least it didn't suck for 20+ hours.
@ekg: bound in blood was bloody fantastic. I still replay that shit once in awhile best fps western, maybe ever.
After watching that, I want to play FF9
I did really like bound in blood.
I disagee w/ BloodRayne & DNF.
Really? Had to censor the title? Is this an Escapist thing, where you can put the entire word except for one letter, so everybody knows what you're saying but you're still family friendly? I hope it's an Escapist thing, because MY Destructoid doesn't kowtow to political correctness like that.

It's times like this I wonder if maybe the Nazis actually did win WWII.
there's plenty worse games than bloodrayne. blaming the controls seems like a classic sterling excuse for sucking.
duke nukem was the worst the demo i sorta liked but when you where in the mines and they did that watered down halflife 2 physics puzzles that didnt even work.. and the fact that they did make a game where they thought rape was FUNNY? so glad i didn't buy it.
That being said I did take off my pants at the end, so job well done otherwise.
As per usual the fanboys/sheep flock.

All I'm getting from this list is that Jimbo hates games that a lot of people seem to like and he thinks those people are stupid for liking them.

DNF may be an exception since I've seen more unnecessary hate for that game than any other this year.

Sterling has a very ignorant way of judging games. He can never possibly consider that some people like the games he hates or vice versa. Disagreeing with him also makes you stupid apparently.

How he actually has fans is nothing short of shocking.
Totally agree with Bloodrayne and its gawdawfull controls.

"Retro fascists would disagree"

As gamer with mostly oldschool tastes, I can honestly say that this has been a good year with a broad swathe of retro styled titles in many genres. Ie Dark souls, Child of Eden, Rayman, Sonic, Serious Sam 3, Outlander and a fuckton of AAA shmups. Plus all the HD remakes including the Treasure stuff on XBLA. A gamer would have to be quite jaded to not enjoy atleast a couple of titles this year.

Saying that I would say that there is a growing number of shallow games that are just cash ins aimed at retro gamers with nostalgia glasses epecially on iphone (James Pond, Dizzy)
@DDRobin

Gotta say IMO I like Armageddon more.
Even if it was a bit repitive.

Though look at the whole series, they all abandon why people like them.

RF1 to RF2
Serious Story to more action

Guerilla to Armageddeon
Same thing to a point (mainly gameplay wise that time)
I've watched plenty of Jimquisition. But it's not a joke when you act arrogant in every video.
"there's plenty worse games than bloodrayne. blaming the controls seems like a classic sterling excuse for sucking"

Imo Any simple oldschool 2D game which derives most of its fun from the gameplay is shit if it cant get the fundamental controls nailed down correctly
Karu, those aren't games.
@MathewRD: It's called a RUNNING joke. God you're thick.
I'n not even going to watch this video for fear of seeing/hearing Jim Sterling. Never in my life have I seen a bigger(no pun intended) do#$he. And I have talked to a lot of people on the internet too.
People tell me to find another gaming site. Thing is, I love D toid and the other guys on here.

That's like saying I should quit watching football cause I hate the Raiders.
@ Scotty:

Not so much the fault of Jim or anyone on the staff, its the advertising companies that force em to pull this kinda shit. of course we can curse more than a sailor that stubbed his toe.

HELLDAMNASS

FARTSHITCRAP
No stronghold 3? no sword of the stars 2?

I are disappoint.

Though maybe broken unfinished messes of games that are sequels don't count as "The Sh*ttest". Hell, even the Game of Thrones RTS was terrible.

Though I suppose the overwhelming majority of book, comic and movie to video game conversions are nothing more than a money grab and deserve to be in lists like this.
I think I'm gonna go buy Knight's Contract now.
Oh look, opinions.
@MathewRD Its a
