1. COMPANIES that help us to produce, distribute and market our books of photographs

- NMPP

Nouvelles Messageries de la Presse Parisienne (NMPP) distributes the Reporters Without Borders books of photos in 15,000 outlets in 20 countries at no charge, and has done so from the first book onwards. It also helps to promote the books by displaying them prominently at points of sale and by getting newspaper vendors very involved.

- SNDP and UNDP

The National Union of News Agents (SNDP) and National Union of Press Distributors (UNDP) refuse to take any commission on the sale of the Reporters Without Borders books of photos, thereby allowing Reporters Without Borders to receive the entire retail price amount on each book sold.

- Relay

The Relay network supports the sale of the books of photos, offering them a high degree of visibility.

- Maison de la Presse and Mag Presse

The Maison de la Presse and Mag Presse outlets distribute the Reporters Without Borders books of photographs free of charge.

- Interforum Editis

Interforum Editis distributes the books of photographs free of charge in specialised stores such as Fnac, Virgin and Cultura, in large supermarkets such as Carrefour, Casino, Monoprix, Intermarché and Auchan, in nearly 600 bookstores in France and in around 40 online bookstores including Amazon.fr, Fnac.com, Chapitre.com and Cultura.com. The networks are of enormous help in promoting the books, especially as they are displayed prominently.

- Fnac

Every year Fnac helps to fund the production of the books of photos and markets them free of charge.

- CFAO

CFAO provides support for the books of photographs every year.

- France Loisirs

France Loisirs offers the books of photographs to its members through its network of bookstores and its catalogue, without taking a commission.

- A2Presse

A2Presse markets the Reporters Without Borders books of photographers through its catalogues of press subscription offers and its website, at no charge.

- Métrobus, AAP, PROMAP, SEDDIF

These poster advertising networks offer Reporters Without Borders advertising space at no charge or at special rates. The space is used to promote the books of photographs and for the organisation’s awareness campaigns.

The Reporters Without Borders books also get help from around 200 magazines and newspapers, which carry publicity inserts for them free of charge, and some 50 broadcast and website companies which advertise them prominently.

2. COMPANIES that are partners in Reporters Without Borders’ activities and campaigns

- AFP

A Reporters Without Borders supporter for many years, AFP makes all of its news service in French, English and Spanish available to the organisation’s researchers free of charge. It also helps to make Reporters Without Borders’ press releases and initiatives known throughout the world and thereby give us better visibility, which is essential if the voices of the journalists we defend are to be heard.

- Air France

Every year, Air France offers flights to Reporters Without Borders, which it uses to carry out fact-finding visits all over the world.

- American Express

With the help of American Express, Reporters Without Borders has for several years been operating a hotline that allows journalists anywhere in the world to quickly reach a Reporters Without Borders representative in emergencies, at no charge to the caller.

- Arte, Baume & Mercier and Veronica Magazine

Arte, Baume & Mercier and Veronica Magazine have in recent months all shown their support for press freedom in various ways including passing on donations to Reporters Without Borders and organising events that pay tribute to imprisoned journalists.

- La Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations

A state savings and investment bank, the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations helps Reporters Without Borders to publish a range of material including the monthly posters that draw attention to alarming situations or important developments.

- Digit Access

This company designs, produces and distributes a range of camera bags from which part of the profits goes to Reporters Without Borders.

- Soleil Production

Part of the profits from the sale of War Correspondent, a cartoon edited and distributed by Soleil Production, goes to Reporters Without Borders.

- Oxford (Lecas)

In September 2009, the Lecas company will bring out a Reporters Without Borders range of notebooks and stationery accessories under the Oxford brand. Part of the profits will go to Reporters Without Borders.

- Jean Martin law firm

The Jean Martin law firm has for several years been assisting Reporters Without Borders with all its legal affairs.

- Datapresse

A company specialising in the design and execution of tools for people working in media relations and communication, Datapresse gives Reporters Without Borders free access to its French media database.

- Leica Camera

This company, which produces a very prestigious make of camera, donated two digital cameras, a Leica V-lux and a Leica D-Lux, to Reporters Without Borders to be used on its field trips for taking photos of journalists and human rights activists to help publicise their problems and concerns.

- Radio France

The French public service radio broadcaster supports Reporters Without Borders’ activities by carrying its campaign ads and, above all, by helping to promote the books of photographs which are its main source of funding.

- Saatchi & Saatchi

All of the Reporters Without Borders ad campaigns have been produced free of charge by Saatchi & Saatchi since 2002.

- Sanyo

The Sanyo group donated 50 digital mini-videocameras to Reporters Without Borders to help make the personal stories we gather more alive and immediate, and thereby help make the public more aware of the problems journalists face around the world.

- Solidaripresse

Whenever someone takes out a media subscription through Solidaripresse, 3 euros of the subscription price for every subscription period is paid to a designated NGO or non-profit. More than 450 subscribers have chosen Reporters Without Borders.

3. CITIES AND FESTIVALS

- City of Bayeux

The Bayeux municipal authorities and Reporters Without Borders together chose to locate the Journalists Memorial in the city. This is a monument to the memory of the 1,500 journalists who have been killed in the course of their work since 1944. The first stone was laid in October 2005.

- International Photojournalism Festival

The International Photojournalism Festival, held annually in Perpignan under Jean-François Leroy’s leadership, gives Reporters Without Borders an opportunity each year to inform festival goers about press freedom issues.

4. FOUNDATIONS

- EDF Diversiterre Foundation

The EDF Diversiterre Foundation and Reporters Without Borders have come together to award three annual press freedom prizes. The prizes go to a journalist who has demonstrated a commitment to press freedom in work, action or publicly-expressed views; to a news media that embodies the struggle for the right to inform and be informed; and to a cyber-dissident who has been prevented from providing news and information on the Internet.

- Ford Foundation

Created by the donations and legacies of Edsel and Henry Ford, the Ford Foundation is a private, non-profit organisation that is completely independent of the Ford Motor Company and has its own board of governors. In 2009, the foundation began supporting the creation of a major campaign by Reporters Without Borders aimed at making the US public aware of the importance of a free press and the dangers that journalists face when trying to provide reliable, independent news and information both at home and abroad.

- National Endowment for Democracy

A US non-profit organisation that was set up to support democratic institutions around the world, the NED funds research work by Reporters Without Borders into press freedom violations, especially in Africa.

- Open Society Institute

This private New York-based foundation helps to fund Reporters Without Borders’ use of its legal expertise to defend press freedom and combat impunity for violations. The activities funded include fact-finding trips, publications and awareness campaigns.

- Sigrid Rausing Trust

The Sigrid Rausing Trust is a London-based foundation that was created in 1995 to support the international human rights movement in four main areas – civil and political rights, women’s rights, minority rights and social and environmental justice. It has been funding Reporters Without Borders’ activities aimed at defending press freedom and combating censorship in the Maghreb, Middle East and Iran since 2007.

5. GOVERNMENTAL AND INTERNATIONAL BODIES

- French foreign ministry

The French foreign ministry provides support on an annual basis for specific Reporters Without Borders projects including an assistance fund for imprisoned journalists and a programme for reinforcing the safety of freelance journalists working in war zones. The ministry also has a major project that helps Reporters Without Borders to develop its international network.

- International Organisation of Francophonie (French-speaking countries)

Reporters Without Borders has for years enjoyed the support of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (in particular, its commission for peace, democracy and human rights). In partnership with Radio France Internationale, a prize is awarded each year to journalists in four categories (print media, radio, photo and cartoons).

- French Prime Minister

The Prime Minister provides support each year for the work of researching press freedom violations throughout the world, which is at the centre of Reporters Without Borders’ activities. Inter alia, this enables Reporters Without Borders to update its country fact files on press freedom violations for World Press Freedom Day on 3 May.

- UNESCO

UNESCO has for several years enabled Reporters Without Borders to publish a Handbook for Journalists with practical information on the rules to follow in war zones, on first aid for those who are injured, on the protection that international law accords a journalist in wartime, and on the rules and procedures for investigating press freedom violations.
