keeps two lists of bibliographical references on Indigenous peoples
since 1991: which people? and
types of documents. The types
of documents listing puts together references on the theme in
the various existing kinds of media, both published and unpublished.
References were grouped into 18 types and indexed by author. The other
listing is cross indexed by Indigenous people and contains, in addition
to the works mentioned in the first list in the cases it was
possible to identify the people they deal with -, a few dissertations
and books published before 1991.
For those who want to know more about the Indigenous peoples in Brazil,
we suggest a look into an introductory
bibliography. Take a look, also, in other
sites to get information on the theme. And check out a provisory
assessment of the direct channels of Indigenous expression as well:
sites, CDs, books, videos, CD-ROMs and cultural centers (the
Indians by themselves).
The listings were prepared using the material available at ISAs
collection and work sent by collaborators and researchers from various
institutions in Brazil and abroad who responded to our request for their
help. They are probably the most complete listings of their kind, even
though they are incomplete and not always homogeneous in terms of their
contents.
Despite the fact that they are important, for several reasons (lack
of space, consistency, difficulty to have access to the information)
the following references were not included: articles published in dailies
and in weekly news periodicals, book reports, leaflets, posters, maps,
communiqués in congresses, re-editions, reports in general (which
excludes, for instance, part of the production by NGOs, Universities
and research centers) and administrative documents (such as, for example,
the reports produced by the work teams named by Funai to identify Indigenous
lands).
These listings are permanently open for additions and updating. If
you have any observation or contribution to make, write
to ISA.
