smashy games like TURRICAN, Hudson Hawk, Maniac Mansion,...

Maniac Manson and Monkey Island are near the top for me. I also fondly remember:

- Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (best text adventure EVER!)
- Impossible Mission (stay awhile, stay forever!)
- Aliens (the first truly awesome movie based game)
- The "Games" series (Epyx owned all with their titles)
- Legacy of the Ancients (incredibly fun RPG - overhead and 3D)
- Rambo, First Blood II (the music and action had me from the start)
- Fairlight (never did figure out this action puzzler, but enjoyed trying)
- Archon (Action chess was way more fun than it sounds)
- Lords of Conquest (this multiplayer strategy war game owned all)
- Lode Runner (awesome precursor to Lemming like action puzzlers)
- Hacker (the game had NO instructions or description - the screen is blank except for LOGON and a cursor. Great game to figure out!)

... I could probably go on forever. What a great system the C64 was.

...ack how can I forget the Accolade classics!?

- Hardball! First modern baseball great
- 4th 'n Inches! Early fun football thrills
- Ace of Aces! Incredible WWII action & "sim" game
- Psi5 Trading Company!!! Play Cpt Kirk to your alien crew and get your cargo across space while defeating pirates.

Another great "game" for it's day was Gary Kitchen's Gamemaker program. I recreated a lot of my old Atari 2600 favorites using that software.
