Before you ask a stupid idiotic question (yes, that means you), check this FAQ.

Question #1: How do I get a picture (icon or avatar) under my username?
Answer: Look at the top menu bar to find Settings. Click on it. It'll take you to another page. Then look for Avatar URL. Enter the URL of the image for your icon/avatar. If you don't know what is a URL, then you don't deserve to use an avatar.

Question #2: How do you make a quote box? Ya know, that thing that looks like a coupon to show text being quoted in a block.
Answer: <quote>quoted text goes here between the tags</quote>
Visual:

quoted text goes here between the tags
Note: Do not overuse quotes. Do not quote entire posts.

Question #3: How do I post images?
Answer: Just type in the full URL of the image. To have the image linked instead of embedded, add a # to the end of the URL.

Question #4: How do I use bold and italic text?
Answer: Learn HTML.

Question #5: How do I create a thread?
Answer: Figure it out yourself, n00b!

What else do you want added to the FAQ?

Q. How do I post symbols like ½ ™ â Æ ® ° • © ¿ ?
A. Start menu / Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Character Map

Q. Why don't the symbols I chose post right?
A. Select Verdana as your font, It's what the posts use.

Q. How do I view or post a profile?
A. This thread here: http://forum.pcvsconsole.com/viewthread.php?tid=2040
Please resist posting comments in the Members Profile, use the chat thread instead.
As more people post profiles it will be harder to find them, if you do add comments. ;)

Q. How do I search the Forum or avoid reposting a topic?
A. Most go to Google and add it to their Toolbars. It has a site search feature. Also you can read the folder where the topic best fits. Make sure you go back a lot of pages reading every title.

Q. How do I make a link or hyperlink a site or page?
A. Include [ http :// ] before the address. It won't appear in the hyperlink. But it will create an active link like http://www.PcVsConsole.com , This is also an example of how caps don't affect links.

How come I can't logon anymore?
You might have already be banned from this forum. If you want to be able to logon again, please send an email to [me].

Q3: change ? to #. As we already notice already, some image links may include query strings. Also, if the image link doesn't end with a .JPG or .GIF, simply add a #.jpg at the end of the url to display the image on the forum.

How do I promote my ranks, how can I change my ranks, or what ranks are there?

I messed up my email address, password, and/or name when registering the account, what should I do?

Can I add a signature?

---

Finally, it would have been better if this thread is linked in the main forum page, perhaps to the right of the "PVC Forum"

I wish to add the following tags into our forum:

<TT>
..
..
</TT>

This acts the same way as <TT> or Typewriter Text in HTML.

<CODE>
...
</CODE>

This one will remove all the formatting such as <B >, <I >, <U >, <BLOCKQUOTE > as well as URL conversion such as .jpg, ,.gif., and http://... You don't have to insert new paragraphs into <CODE>.

Here are some of the HTML tags I'd like to include in this forum:

STRIKE>: For strike-over texts... It's useful for obvious corrections
U>: It underlines your text
SUP>: Superscript
SUB>: Subscript

LISTING - This very crucial when pointing out some keypoints here.

UL> it adds bullets to our list
OL> it autonumbers...

We probably don't need to change our bullet types like <OL type="a"> or <UL type="o"> although you can implement it.

LI> it adds autolisting your numbering

To use list (for others to read), one can do this:

<OL>
<LI>Hello World
<LI>This is Nice!
<LI>W00t! W00t!
</OL>

Which gives the same result as follows:

1. Hello World
2. This is Nice!
3. W00t! W00t!

Or,

<OL>
<LI>Bullet 1
<LI>Bullet 2
<LI>Bullet 3
</OL>

which is the same as:

* Bullet 1
* Bullet 2
* Bullet 3

That's all the rat wants now!

I think it may be better to move the FAQ and RULES to a new location that is easier to see. many n00bs are still asking the same questions, probably because they cant see the FAQ with the teeny text at teh bottom.

Perhaps a good location would be on the folder listing on the main page, or even permanent listing on Recent Discussions. it might be good to move the Chat Room™ to that location as well. and PVC Google Search would be a good link to add there too.

I also want a <RAT> tag so that I can block all posts from that stinky rat.

I posted this as a joke on another thread, but when I read it I found it more useful than I had intended:

Advice:
To get more responses to your posts and avoid getting your thread put into the recycling bin, try the following tips:

Say something about the game in question. Try looking a little something up yourself, and cite it with a link. Make people feel like you contributed and deserve their knowledge.
Tip: If you can't find anything, make something completely atrocious up. There are plenty of people on the forum who would love to correct your "stupidity" with the actually facts.

Ask specific questions about the game. Rather than asking a broad, general question, try being specific. You will find you get a better response because you already knew enough to warrant being given more information.

Use proper spelling and grammar. If you want people to take your posts seriously, take what you post seriously. Its the little things that count.
Example: "has any body heard any thing on quake 4" is better if you write "Has anybody heard anything on Quake 4?"
