Dubai Banks
Banks in Dubai are categorized in 4 main categories like
commercial banks, merchant or investment banks, Islamic Banks,
and industrial banks. Bank of America and First Union have
representative offices in Dubai. Foreign banks have to pay 20%
tax while local banks are exemption to this. Local banks finance
most non-oil investment in the UAE. Local banks invest in
foreign stock markets to absorb excess liquidity. Islamic banks
are involved in real estate development, home and car financing,
and service leasing finance, education, health, travel and
tourism.
Banking services offers full range of services, including
different accounts like check books, credit cards, loans and
ATMs. Banking hours are typically 8:00am-1:00pm Saturday to
Wednesday, 8:00am-12:00pm on Thursday. Banks are closed on
Fridays and Islamic public holidays.
