'(The stars) Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon have been lovely.

She added: 'I think she (Nicole) puts a lot of research into her characters, which is why I couldn't be happier with her portrayal of Celeste.

'I know Reese as a mother of teenage children, she related on a different level,' she gushed of the star's take on Madeline.

All praise: Liane shared with the publication of Nicole's portrayal: 'I think she (Nicole) puts a lot of research into her characters, which is why I couldn't be happier with her portrayal of Celeste'

The high praise comes shortly after Liane revealed a season two is probable, and already knows what plot point she'd like to focus on.

Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, Liane quipped that there are story lines which did not make it from the book to the big screen, and which, 'open the possibility of season two.'

In particular, Liane was disappointed that the backstory of Bonnie's abusive father was only hinted at in the drama.

Bonnie, who is played by Zoe Kravitz, and her dark history, could become the central premise of season two.

But thus far Liane is only tinkering with ideas and nothing is set in stone.

She went on to confess: 'The producers have asked me to see if I can come up with some ideas. I wouldn't write a new book but perhaps a new story and then we'll see what happens.'

It's the second time that Liane has revealed she is in fact strongly considering a sequel to the smash.

Earlier this month she told the Sydney Morning Herald: 'I'm absolutely open to it because, once I started thinking, it was too much fun to see what I could do and to see these characters again. And there's definitely places you can go.'

Fans are so keen to see a second season, they have taken to petitioning Liane on Facebook, an activity which Reese Witherspoon has encouraged.

The drama, which was originally set in Sydney's Northern Beaches in the books and transplanted to California in the TV series, ended with a bang earlier this month.

It features an all-star cast including Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgård and Laura Dern.
