While the non-governing forces in the Armenian parliament continue to discuss the matter of initiating a vote of no confidence in the government, speculation lingers on as to whether the opposition is, indeed, capable of taking that drastic step or it will continue to engage in imitating struggle and continuing its ‘flirting’ with the government.

A year after the presidential ballot in Armenia, the official runner-up, Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian says the country is in crisis and re-elected President Serzh Sargsyan is responsible.

After months of silence, on Tuesday, Hovannisian, presenting an annual national report, said that although a year passed since the elections, the post-election standoff has not receded for even a split second and that Armenia can overcome the current crisis only through pan-national consolidation.

The head of the Armenian government, much criticized over the past years which found its reflection also in the second president’s year-end interview, stated during the first cabinet meeting of 2014 that “a tense work awaits the government in the nearest future” and instructed the ministers to present the top priority issues and the annual plan to public, so that “in 2014 people get a chance to oversee the government activities by ministries and departments”.
