Armenian armed forces have prevented an attempt by Azerbaijani saboteurs to infiltrate into the territory of Armenia, Defense Ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan wrote on his Facebook account.

According to him, the incident happened in Armenia’s northeastern Tavush province on Sunday afternoon.

“The advancement of the enemy detachments was timely spotted. Corresponding rapid-reaction detachments of the Armenian army had been lying in wait before neutralizing the sabotage group that violated the state frontier of Armenia,” Hovhannisyan said, adding that the dead body of one member of the Azeri sabotage group remained in the area between the military positions of the sides.

“Unfortunately, during the exchange of fire herdsman Seryozha Nikolayi Sargsyan (born in 1935), who was in that area, was also killed,” the Defense Ministry spokesman said. “The detachments of the Armenian armed forces fully control the situation. The responsibility for what happened fully lies with the military and political leadership of Azerbaijan.”
