Organic PR and Twitter at business networking group Athena

Organic PR was the education business slot at business networking group Athena in Reading today and there was much interest in what social media and Twitter in particular can do for your business, simply by leveraging what you have got!

The Athena Reading Central is a relatively new business networking group in Berkshire and it meets monthly at ASK in St Mary’s Butts. After a delicious lunch and entertaining and educational one minutes from each member, I stepped up to explain how by simply talking about the stories in your business, both online and in the media, can help to create and grow your reputation.

Such was the interest and level of questioning that having been 20 minutes before time when I started to speak, we were 10 minutes late when I sat down! Twitter was a subject everyone was very interested in and finding out how this can work for your business was a key element of my talk. Each person attending left with 10 Top Twitter Tips for Newbies, so I am very much looking forward to seeing all the Tweeting that results from today!

Using Linked In, Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites to build relationships and promote the content on your site can really pay dividends for your business. Reading (the pastime rather than where we were for the networking is the number one activity on the internet (despite an urban myth involving a less savoury activity and pictures!) and women use the Internet more than men in the United States and are catching up here in the UK. What can you write that adds value to the Twitterverse, gets people interested in you, builds a relationship and will eventually lead to sales?

Having a strategy is key to using Organic PR. If you know why you are writing something and how it all fits together, it all starts to make sense and it becomes less of a chore. Having a schedule of things that you want to write about means that time spent writing is far better spent.

So what are you waiting for? Work out your strategy then go to Twitter.com and register today! I’ll look forward to tweeting with you!
