A major university re-did their outdoor lighting in the name
of improved safety. Let's look at the new lighting. They
used
globes. See the lighting distribution. Over half goes
directly
up. Dark shadows even between the cars. |

Here is another one. Lots of light on the roof, little on the
ground, no control to put the light only where it is needed. |

the dark areas and the overbright areas. Is visibility good? |

See the bright areas close by? Glare? Little or no control
of the light output. Evaluate the safety, the energy waste, the
amount
of direct up light, the quality of the lighting job. |

Or shall we use full cut off fixtures? Evaluate the design.
We can even use lower lighting levels, as the eye is not compromised by
glare. We added some of white light near the doors, for better
color
rendering and a bit of added light at these two locations. |
