Race Equality Scheme

The council has produced its revised Race Equality Scheme, setting out how it will aim to improve the requirements of the Race Relations Amendment Act (2000) over the next 3 years, June 2005-2008. This scheme intends to improve equality of opportunity and remove unlawful discrimination on the grounds of race, within the service it delivers, and for the people that it employs. It also sets out how the council will also actively promote good relations between those of different races within the Powys community. In developing this scheme, we have consulted and gathered views to help the process from the council internally, elected members of the council, partners of council, such as the Police and the local health board, the equalities forum (an external forum consisting of people with experience and knowledge in the equalities field), a selection of the general public from the citizens panel and the Powys centre for Cultural Diversity.

Powys County Council hopes that this scheme will help to improve the quality of life for people of all different races within the Powys Communty. If you have any comments to make on this scheme, or you feel you would like to express something about Race Relations within Powys, or the way that Powys County Council delivers its services, please call Rob Beardall on 01597 826247, or e-mail Rob.Beardall@powys.gov.uk.

We would also like to hear from you if you would like to take an active involvement in improving Race Relations within the Powys community, and in improving the way that Powys delivers its services to people of all different races.

This scheme is also available in normal print, large print, Braille or on audio tape for Access requirements. Please contact Meinir Jacksonon 01597 826393 or e-mail Meinir.Jackson@powys.gov.uk who can make arrangements to send this out to you.
