The 2 MWel  / 5.6 MWth biomass co-generation plant (CHP) is located close to the Danube in the north-west of Linz, Upper Austria. The current produced by the power plant (15.000 MWh) is fed in local net of the regional energy supplier Energie AG. In addition the heat, which is produced in the power plant (22.000 MWh) currently supplies 4500 inhabitants in Aschach through a closed 34km long long-distance heating net of Energie AG. Because of the growing demand for heat in the region, Cycleenergy uses two more boilers with a capacity of 4,5MW in the first quarter of 2009.

Concept
At the riverside, situated close to the water power plant Donaukraftwerk Aschach, it is another excellent example for decentralized energy production from the energy source biomass. The extremely well traffic connection allows for a combined transport of material with lorries and ships, and secures the efficient usage of the regenerative energy source wood.

The power plant was originally built by Porr and Cycleenergy took it over before the commissioning. The CHP Aschach consumes approximately 18.000 tons of wood garbage annually, which is covered by long term delivery contracts with local suppliers. The CHP runs since July 2008.
The CHP has an additional annual heat production capacity of 22.000 MWh to 23.000 MWh. Heat can be provided as hot water (forward temperature 90°C, return temperature 60 °C) or as saturated steam at 1,6 bar (absolute pressure). In addition, significant amounts of low temperature heat from vacuum condensing can be provided for pre-heating of drying air to a temperature of approx. 30°C. Backup and peak capacity can be provided from the neighboring biomass heating plant.
