Sid Richardson Museum

 The museum is closed thorugh mid-September (2013) to prepare for the fall exhibit, Western Treasures.

A destination for all who enjoy paintings of the 19th Century American West, the Sid Richardson Museum features works by Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell and other artists from the personal collection of the museum's namesake, the legendary Texas oilman and philanthropist, Sid W. Richardson (1891-1959). Admission is free.

Marking its 30th anniversary in 2012 in downtown's Sundance Square, the museum is recognized as having one of the most significant private collections of Remington and Russell paintings in the United States. In addition to paintings by Remington and Russell, Mr. Richardson's collection includes works by other artists from the same era: Charles Schreyvogel, Oscar E. Berninghaus, Frank Tenney Johnson, William R. Leigh, Edwin W. Deming, Gilbert Gaul and Charles F. Browne. These artists captured the romance and ruggedness of the Western United States in the late 1800s, a time when most Americans had little firsthand knowledge of the frontier.

In addition to enjoying the paintings, visitors will find a special selection of Western-oriented gifts and merchandise in the Museum Store. Unique items include prints on canvas, sculptures, pottery, jewelry, books, note cards, Christmas ornaments and other decorative items in the spirit of the West.
