Harrison Ford Joins 'Expendables 3,' While Bruce Willis Bails

10 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

At 71 years old Harrison Ford clearly isn't getting too old for this shit. Hell, we just learned he's game for getting out the whip and hat again to quip his way through "Indiana Jones 5," should it ever happen, and now he's ready to go down Nostalgia Lane some more, along with a host of other aging action icons. Sylvester Stallone has hit Twitter again, this time revealing this afternoon (with a heavy hand on the caps lock and exclamation point buttons): "Willis Out... Harrison Ford In !!!! Great News !!!!! Been waiting years for this!!!!" So hooray, Ford will join the random cast that includes Mickey Rourke, Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan, Milla Jovovich, Mel Gibson and Kellan Lutz. Okay, okay we admit it— we sorta do want to see how his grab bag of people come together even if it sounds like a trainwreck waiting to happen. Perhaps Bruce Willis »

Renny Harlin's Found Footage Thriller Devil's Pass Gets A New Trailer, Poster And Release Date

1 hour ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The career of Renny Harlin is summed up almost perfectly in the way he is still referred to as .The director of Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger,. even though it.s been 20 years since either of those movies came out. We haven.t even talked about him on this site since 12 Rounds came out in 2009. Another sign that his relevancy has slipped away is his latest movie, formerly called Dyatlov Pass Incident, which was released months ago overseas with barely a blip on the radar in the U.S. outside of horror websites. But that film is now coming to America, and it's coming surprisingly quickly. Dread Central has delivered a new trailer, a new poster and a release date - oh, and it.s called Devil.s Pass now (since apparently referring to locations by their original attributed names is too confusing). An obvious attempt to cash in on »

Film Review: ‘Planes’

1 hour ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

A “Cars” spinoff that seems to have taken an unfortunate detour through “It’s a Small World,” “Planes” is so overrun with broad cultural stereotypes that it should come with free ethnic-sensitivity training for especially impressionable kids. Produced outside the auspices of Pixar and showing it in every uninspired particular, this formulaic underdog story — about a lowly cropduster who dreams of joining the fast flyers in an international air race — feels heavily geared toward small fry at the expense of grown-up interest. Diverting in bits and pieces, but absent the heart, soul and ingenuity one associates with the best of Disney animation, the endlessly merchandisable picture could very well soar at the box office, but it won’t stick the landing where word of mouth is concerned.

Although the “Cars” movies rank relatively low in the estimation of most Pixar devotees, they are known to occupy a special place in »

We're the Millers

1 hour ago | Leonard Maltin's Movie Crazy | See recent Leonard Maltin's Movie Crazy news »

I don’t ask a lot of a comedy: I want it to make me laugh, and We’re the Millers does just that. I was concerned that it would be too raunchy for my taste, but the writers fooled me, as they fully intended to do. Jason Sudeikis plays a likable, small-time Denver drug dealer who gets himself in hot water. The only solution is to do a favor for his supplier (Ed Helms) by going to Mexico and bringing an unspecified quantity of pot back across the border. Trying to figure out how to do it, Sudeikis stumbles onto a foolproof idea: pretend to be the head of an ordinary American family traveling in an Rv. To fill out the required foursome he recruits a nerdy teenage neighbor (Will...

Last week, I attended a fun press conference with Sudeikis, Aniston, Roberts, Poulter, Hahn, and Marshall Thurber in New York City.  They talked about making the film, how Aniston got in shape for the role, improv, their favorite scenes, the hardest scene to film without laughing and who broke the most on set, »

New Hunger Games: Catching Fire Image Features A Stoic Katniss

3 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Just because the summer season is winding to a close and we only have a few more weeks of hot weather left doesn't mean that 2013 is running short on blockbusters. Sure, we've seen the release of movies like Iron Man 3, Man of Steel and Fast & Furious 6, but there are still plenty of big titles left on the horizon. There are few films in the remainder of the year that are as big as Francis Lawrence's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, however, and today we continue to celebrate the dwindling number of days until its release with a brand new still from the movie. As you can tell by the not-so-subtle watermark, the image comes to us from the folks over at Entertainment Weekly, but what's not entirely clear is what is going on in this scene. Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen looks like she's decked out in sportswear, »

Patrick Wilson Film ‘Stretch’ Boosts Los Angeles Production

3 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Blumhouse Pictures has given a boost to Los Angeles production by filming all of Joe Carnahan’s “Stretch” in the Hollywood area.

The low-budget film, starring Patrick Wilson as a down-on-his-luck chauffeur, racked up 25 days of permitted production during the past two weeks, according to figures released Tuesday by the FilmL.A. permitting agency.

Carnahan began shooting “Stretch” in late June shortly after Universal decided to date the film for a March 21 release. “We shot it all in Los Angeles, which is great to see,” said location manager Michael Neale.

Wilson portrays a driver looking to relieve his debt by driving around a mysterious billionaire, played by Chris Pine, while Ed Helms plays a limo driver colleague.  Jason Blum and Carnahan are producing.

Statistics from FilmL.A. showed a relatively robust production level for features last week with 219 permitted days, up 33% from the same week in 2012.

Daniel Loeb In Retreat: Backs Off Sony For Now With Praise For CEO Kazuo Hirai And George Clooney; But Can He Be Trusted?

Tootsie star said to have been 'surgically cured' after disease was diagnosed early

Actor Dustin Hoffman has undergone treatment for cancer, the Oscar-winner's publicist confirmed on Tuesday.

Hoffman's publicist, Jodi Gottlieb, declined to say what kind of cancer or when the Tootsie star was diagnosed.

The news was first reported by People Magazine, where Gottlieb said the cancer had been "detected early and he has been surgically cured."

The 75-year-old actor is set to undergo further preventative treatments to protect against the cancer returning, People reported.

Hoffman, who won the best actor Oscar for his roles in 1979's Kramer vs. Kramer and 1988's Rain Man, made his directorial debut with the 2012 comedy-drama Quartet.

He is set to star alongside Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr in the Jon Favreau-directed comedy Chef, which is set for release next year.

The Judd Apatow-Produced Pee-Wee Herman Movie Now Has A Director

Even though he.ll be turning 61 on August 27th, Paul Reubens will always be a child at heart. Specifically, a big grey-suit and bow-tie-wearing child named Pee-wee Herman. And while the silly and slightly psychotic character had his heyday back in the late 1980s, he has experienced a resurgence in the last few years, with a Broadway show and constant talks about returning to screens both big and small. In fact, the L.A. Times reports Reubens has confirmed the upcoming Judd Apatow-produced Pee-wee feature film has landed its director. Only Reubens is playing coy and he isn.t telling anybody who it is yet. Reubens says the script he co-wrote with comedian Paul Rust is finished and that the film.s financing has been secured, with production set to begin at some point in 2014. Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard And Cameron Monaghan Join Jeff Bridges In The Giver

Lois Lowry's The Giver is a beloved, award-winning, incredible piece of dystopian science-fiction, and it would appear that the upcoming film adaptation from director Philip Noyce is going to be equipped with a cast that the quality of the story deserves. With Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges already on-board to both produce and play the titular character and Brenton Thwaites cast as the film's protagonist, today we learn from both Deadline and The Wrap that Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard and Cameron Monaghan have all signed deals to board the highly-anticipated project. First published in 1993, the book tells the story of Jonas (Thwaites), a young man living in a supposedly utopian society where all emotion, history, and even color has been completely eliminated. Review: Cop Thriller 'Blood' Starring Paul Bettany, Stephen Graham, Brian Cox & Mark Strong

5 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

The history of the British police movie is not a glorious one. Perhaps it's because (for the most part) U.K. coppers aren't allowed to carry firearms, which somewhat reduces the capacity for squib-happy action sequences. Or maybe it's the lack of glamorous locations for said shootouts, which can hardly compete with Manhattan or L.A. But after Edgar Wright imported the cop movie to rural Britain with "Hot Fuzz," we've seen a string of more straight-faced takes on the genre from the U.K., including the Jason Statham vehicle "Blitz," '70s remake "The Sweeney," and this spring's "Welcome To The Punch." Of course, you could take a different approach, a more realistic and unglamorous one, where not a single bullet flies and no car chases another. And that's pretty much what "Blood" does. Executive-produced by Sam Mendes, adapted from a mid-'00s BBC series called "Conviction" by original »
