Final Fantasy XIII-2 summons Ezio costume

By Jonathan Downin

Assassin's Creed: Revelations frontman shares his look with Square Enix for forthcoming RPG's downloadable content.

The story of Ezio Auditore reached its conclusion with the release of Assassin's Creed: Revelations earlier this month, but Ubisoft's stealth action hero isn't dropping out of sight entirely. Ezio was already booked to be in SoulCalibur V for the fighting game's January 31 debut, and the assassin is at least lending a spare costume to another game debuting on the same day.

Square Enix today announced that Ezio's costume will be offered as downloadable content for Final Fantasy XIII-2's Noel Kreiss. The costume making the franchise jump will be Ezio's darker outfit from Assassin's Creed: Revelations, rather than his Assassin's Creed II or Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood outfits.

Alternate character costumes have previously been revealed as Final Fantasy XIII-2 preorder bonuses, with GameStop preorders securing an alternate costume for main character Serah. Pricing and release date information for Ezio's costume have not yet been revealed by Square Enix.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is set for release on January 31 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and is a direct sequel to 2010's well-received Final Fantasy XIII directed by series veteran Motomu Toriyama. In an interview with GameSpot, Toriyama said XIII-2 will be "perhaps even darker and more mysterious" than Final Fantasy XIII.

@spheemo Final Fantasy XIII was a decent enough game on it's own merits, I suppose. It just shouldn't have been called Final Fantasy, much like Front Mission Evolved shouldn't have been called Front Mission. In my opinion they were trying to use the popularity of the franchise name to promote their new ideas. My main issues with it were: The indirect character control perpetuated by the paradigm system Having to play through about 2/3rds of the game before getting to personally pick party members Unmasked linear, townless, interactive NPC-less level design Frequency and length of cutscenes as compared to actual time spent playing the game (especially noticable given the typically speedy pace of battles)

I should have considered haters coming here to find any excuse to criticize the franchise saying stuff like "final fantasy died after 10" and such. You guys seriously need to get a life.

@Ly_neku_ly I never said it was odd, I was just asking.

"perhaps darker and more mysterious then FF13" well that shouldn't be too hard. also, when i read about this to Siliconera, i was speechless......i still don't know what to saw about this. next thing you know, in the FFVersus13, we will have Duke Nukem and Johnny Gat outfits...........actually i wouldn't mind that.

Hey Square Enix, why not Gordon Freeman costume as well??? Or Lara Croft, or , or Claire Redfield, or Crash Bandicoot, or Montgomery Clift? Yeah! why not, sky is the limit!

Altair was in PoP & other titles (can't recall atm), so it's not new for the Ubi guys, but really wierd for SE. i just hate that the content will be MUCH smaller (1 disc on 360 vs 3 last time). i guess that means no cutscenes? Skyrim can be 3.8 gb cuz it has no cutscenes, but that's what makes FF games, so even though i loved FFXIII, i will not buy this day one, and wait until i hear how long it is (but will still get it eventually). actually, SE adding the preorder bonuses for chunks of gameplay (Omega DLC from Amazon) is what made me decide not to get it day one, but the length is key, as well.

I have slept on this since the last time I comented and what I came up with is well.. SE is in a desperate spot trying to grab some of the AC and other players who play games like MW3 and ext. and get them to notice FF13 and buy it since they will be able to play as Ezio. I think its a bit low but at the same time kinda neat. They do need to start to worry about where Final Fantasy is going like most people here are saying and from the looks of it they just need to stick to the japanese formula that made FF good in the first place and add to it. For example the way the storys are told, they should use in game graphics only that way we feel more into it like skyrim type games and heck even ThreadsOffate on PS1 did it and works wonders. Another place where that helps is having every thing on the story happen in real time as you move instead of going into a cut scene so snow can say "This way". They need to stop slaping the controller off our hands and letting us be a part of it all. No more SHHHHH screens before a fight but at the same time remember what made FF so good to play which is the Japanese type gaming that rocks so much.

@USDevilDog how does it being optional DLC have anything to do with atmosphere, i was pointing out how I dont see anyone wanting to download this, because it would kill the atmosphere of the game seeing a completely different character from a completely different game universe suddenly and inexplicably popping up into a Final Fantasy one. The two are not mutually exclusive...

Of course i can appreciate trying to be creative, but there is no creativity behind this idea. It is clearly a money grab. Done Deal.

It's a major F-Up, and a sign of the end times for some companies if they continue to have slumber parties and discuss radical ideas of implementing each other's work into each others project's. What were they smoking?

I do find it odd that there has been a lot of attention put into the Ezio character. The inclusion of his outfit in the Prince of Persia:TFS is one example but it makes sense that Ubisoft would feel the need to share one character from their stock and put it into a genre that whisked away by the sands of time, literally. So they believe that is Assasin Creed pulled any money in for the company they would try to revitalize other titles with their successful mascot. Ubisoft it thinking about trying to pull in cash right now. Since they claim no more subsequent titles will emerge for Assasin's Creed. Is this money going somewhere? I hope it goes to a title that ends on it's premier release...enough sequels...

Ezio is every-freakin-where. SoulCalibur V, Team Fortress 2, and now Final Fantasy. Calling it now: Ezio will somehow appear in Diablo 3.

"@Halloll : Ezio is overrated. yeah I said it. also FFXIII is overrated. yeah I said it." You are soooooo right! SE Dried all the fun from that title since FFX... There is no hope untill they decide to go back to their roots.

@bolton23 - Then I would have to ask the big question: Why is a Final Fantasy game getting DLC at all? Square Enix needs to worry less about idiotic tripe like this and pay more attention to getting Final Fantasy back on track to being a series worth playing.

Square died after ff10.. since then it's all just been linear, mediocre, and desperation just to make a cent.. Skyrim ftw!!!

Is it OK to say I'm a little dissapointed in Square/Final Fantasy... They never had to do this with any of their previous or other games... Seems to me like they're overcompensating for something the game is lacking...

bolton23

@endorbr Right, because obviously the team that designs and determines DLC content should ACTUALLY be making major gameplay decisions, instead of, you know, doing their jobs. God, it's like I'm in the League GD.

So i ask, What good will a costume from a dulled out series like Assasin's Creed offer to a Sequel of a RPG genre which shares no connection to the two. Might as well call it Super Smash Fantasy, throw in all the great hero's and villains. Hell let's make it an orgy of famous characters that just show up in a cesspool of senselessness.

Pantherground

I do not like this game already, due to the fact that Final Fantasy died since Final Fantasy X-2, does anyone remember how our childhood dreams were crushed once Square Enix took over and started putting sequels to Final Fantasy games? Well if the title has any significance, it is to be taken seriously. What makes a Final Fantasy? Well the fact that the word FINAL is placed before FANTASY. The point is that it is supposed to be one epic adventure and then that's it. Move on to another alternate universe with another cast of character with a different atmosphere and there ya go, another Final Fantasy with a roman numeral at the end. Sorry folks, but i hate the new age crap they have spewed out of their rectums for today's kids. So depressing....:(

Ovirew

Doesn't make much sense, but I'm not gonna complain about it. It is optional, and fans of that series will enjoy it. I guess I'm just wondering why an Ubisoft character's likeness is being used in a Square Enix title.

@Darnasian @KH-mixerX I just remembered one even weirder!... also a futuristic Assault Rifle and plasma sword in a Victorian Era game... weird, but kinda cool. The Halo crossover in Dead or Alive 4 (On par with this at least... even though they had an excuse that it was a new spartan named Nicole even though she looks exactly like Chief), and by far the weirdest, Dante from Devil May Cry in Viewtiful Joe. I don't care if they were both made by Capcom. THAT my friends, makes no sense.

@agitatedchimp Lolol struck a nerve with an AC fanboy it seems. I didn't say it wasn't popular I said it's not that popular, specially amongst FF fans. Totally different game genre.

@Crosel777 assassins creed isn't popular? hmm no i dont think so either, without the amount of cameo apperances and advertisements and of corse despite it being ubisofts best selling franchise its obviously not popular at all is it?... idiot.

Why? Assassin's Creed isn't remotely related to Final Fantasy. How about they focus on not making the game SUCK instead of including pointless DLC?

So first konami puts an altair costume in mgs4 and now this. Tbh I only see this as an ingame ad for another game. :\ Or japans way of appealing to a western audience perhaps? Meh, Assassin's Creed is not that popular.
