App Attack: Infinity Blade, Game Dev Story, N.O.V.A 2

Jim Sterling, Reviews Editor
2:00 PM on 12.14.2010

Many of you will have learned by now that I've started to become quite a spokesman for mobile gaming this past year. I think it's important, and I've been frustrated that I haven't been able to cover it properly. Hence, App Attack!

This is the pilot episode of what I hope will be a new Destructoid series. The editing is rough because I did this whole show on my own and I don't have much in the way of video talent. If it's considered worthwhile, I'll hopefully get someone with skills to help me.

Anyway, check it out and see if you like it. I'll really appreciate constructive feedback, so feel free to let me know what you liked and despised!

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

I already gave you my feedback over Twitter. So yeah. You. Sonic. Make it happen.
Just bought n.o.v.a. yesterday after reading your comments on it.

It is great! Loolking forward to the sequel. And, since I bought my first idevice since the classic ipods, I ended up selling my dsi since the app games are cheaper and mostly better than the overpriced crap on the ds (besides the castlevania games and ninja gaiden dragon sword).
Hey I liked this!! It does a good job of showcasing the different games.

I would be a much bigger supporter of mobile gaming if I could get most of them. I have an HTC Dream but I'm still stuck on the 1.5 firmware because my fucking carrier, Rogers, locked us out from the upgrade. I CAN'T EVEN PLAY ANGRY BIRDS T_T

Seriously, and people wonder why I'm terrified of Rogers buying my Leafs, Raptors and TFC.....
"The editing is rough because I did this whole show on my own and I don't have much in the way of video talent."

Uh shut up you did a really good job. I was quite impressed!
I left a comment on the video itself but I guess I will leave another here.

I absolutely love the DTOID has been covering apps more. Jim, your daily freebie posts have been wonderful (even though they are a bit biased toward iPhones/iPod touches)

Jim I recommend that you pick up an iPad at some point (or hope that gameloft sends you one) I love my iPad since I have a set of sausage fingers that make using anything smaller no fun.
More videos please.....
@celicacrazed google cyanogenmod, have a nice day.
And now I know that Game Dev Story is on android! Keep 'em comin' Jim!
Liked the show! Oddy Smog is definitely a worthwhile game. I picked it up when it was the free app of the day, and I'm still playing it.
I liked it.
Apps need more press. Good job Mr. Sterling.
@Wodge
DUDE! I love you!!
Agree or disagree always like getting your take on things, and love getting suggestions for mobile acts.
Wish I could go back and edit make that apps
@CelicaCrazed if i were you, skip versions 5/6 and go for a nice, light 1.6 rom, most of the apps are available, but doesnt cripple the phone.

recommended is superD (check xda-developers.com for stuff)
Only suggestion i have is that I like contraversial Sterling better than news review Jim as far a your videos go. Informative though, and if I didn't already have the smog game on your recommendation before I would of picked it up now.
Liked it quite a lot jim, I suggest that you cover a bit that incredible indie game called today i die. Also, your voice sounds like that of my dead mother.
I wish I had the Killer 7 soundtrack. And probably an iDevice.
Keep this going! Thanks for bringing so many good mobile games to my attention over the last few months. By the way, are you still playing Godville?
great show Jim! I thought it looked and sounded good for something you threw together and would definitely be interested in more shows. I would even sit through a longer show and maybe a spotlight 'classic app' so people, like myself, who recently bought an iPhone to be part of the avalanche of games can find out about the essential apps we should get.
I hope the 3DS has something similar to the app store with cheap prices.

Some of these games look fun, but I wouldn't buy an iphone/itouch because I already have a phone and an MP3 player that I'm happy with and I already own every current gen gaming system on the market(except for 360).
I think you did a really good job here!!!

It´s tidy, it has a lot of information, it is a great start!!!!

Looking forward to see more!
Nice Jim, mobile gaming on the iDevice's (and similar platforms) has grown enough to warrant this type of coverage.

With the amount of new content hitting the App Store daily it's great to have the gaming press helping us sift through it.
can't fault this show, definitely going to be coming to this once i've got an i pod touch or something!
Great series idea. One thing that sucks about the app store is not really knowing whats on there. So keep the recommendations coming!
Really good show Jim. Reminds me of Dominik Diamonds segments on Gamesmaster for some reason.
Good first show, well done!

Worth a mention - the Flight Control multiplayer patch which is fun.
I think this is a good idea, we need more coverage of mobile games.
Great job Jim! keep 'em coming........since I just got my ipod touch 4th gen, I've been looking for some good coverage on games......slide to play is the best so far (after Destructoid, of course).....but this is a great piece....looking forward to more!
Just as I was starting to look at games for my Android. Yay!
Awesome job, please make this a reoccurring show. Thought your editing was tight, and it's a good length. Not too long like many internet shows.
@Jim

What's your opinion of DS games like Ghost Trick being ported to the i-phone and i-pad for considerably cheaper than the DS version? And do you think as a consequence Nintendo will lower the price of their downloadable games?
@scissors:

I doubt the 3DS will have an app store with games of this caliber.....if they did, they would not be able to sell 90% of the games on the store shelves (if they are anything like the quality of DS games).....if they put a game like N.O.V.A on the nintendo store for 2.99, it would be better than most of the games they are trying to sell for 34.99.....

After playing alot of the games from the app store that cost 2.99, I'm going to have a hard time ever paying $35+ for a portable game again, be it PSP, PSP2 or 3DS....unless it's something totally amazing........
Love the video jim, keep em coming! The editing is fine btw.
Im addicted to finding the best new apps so this will be very helpful.
I liked segment but it reminds me in name of Pach Attack. That's bad just because of the off-the-rails "analysis" that guy does. Michael Pa-hack-ter... can I coin that and forever be father of a lame nickname?
I can dig this.
