Ace Attorney 5 announced for 3DS, stars Phoenix Wright photo

The latest issue of Famitsu has confirmed that Ace Attorney 5 is in development for the 3DS, and like the headline says, Phoenix Wright is back in the spotlight. After the recent Ace Attorney movie (also starring Phoenix) managed to find both commercial and critical success, it's no surprise that Capcom is returning to the series' original lead. Nothing against Apollo or Edgeworth, but now that Phoenix is a star of stage, screen, manga, and videogames, it only makes sense for Capcom to capitalize on his new-found fame. Phoenix Wright -- the new king of all media.

From reports coming in, the game will feature detailed polygon based character models as well as traditional hand drawn characters. As far as storyline goes, we know that Phoenix will be joined by a new sidekick -- a young woman who looks like a cross between detective Ema Skye and Phoenix's daughter Trucy. We're also hearing that Winston Payne, the "Glass Joe" of the Ace Attorney series, will make an appearance in the court room at some point, though conflicting reports state that this is actually Winton's better looking younger brother.

If you don't follow the Ace Attorney series, then this all must sound like so much inane babble. As for you diehare Phoenix Wright fans out there, please feel free to freak the f*ck out, and stay tuned for more Ace Attorney 5 news as we get it.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

Huzzah!
YESSSS! Best. News. Ever.
CAPCOM just released a collection pack like Megaman Zero collection for 3DS please :P
WOOT!
^0^
Awesome news. However, Capcom needs to port it to Playstation Vita. More people needs to play the series.
Seems like now would be a good time for me to get started on Trials and Tribulations.
I'm excited.
So, I wonder if this is taking place in THE FUTURE after Apollo Justice? There's... really not a lot of time between the end of the third game and Phoenix's "final" case. While it's not out of the question to suggest that Nick could get cleaned back up, it'd be quite the transition to get his skin untanned. :-P

Capcom, if you do not bring it over here, it's all over.
Does this mean PW and Maya will finally bang?
The only OBJECTION is my pants objecting to the newfound lack of room in them. FUCKING AWESOME
Ah, never mind. Famitsu confirms it takes place one year after AJ. Phoenix spent the year getting pale again, obviously. :-P
Its going to be awesome
This is a fucking system seller to me! This and Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton. Capcom HAS to localize these games. They just have to.

I wonder when the game will take place. After Apollo Justice, with the new court system? If so they will have some explaining to do if they plan to "resurrect" some old characters like Maya and Edgeworth, which didn't even get a mention in Apollo Justice. Maybe it will take place between Trials and Tribulations and Apollo Justice? Or they might ignore AJ altogether. In any scenario, I'm excited! Part of me wishes they would just leave (the character) Phoenix Wright alone, though. Trials and Tribulations had a perfect ending for a trilogy and I wasn't very found of what they did to him in AJ.
Hell YES!! Now if they can just promise to localize this and Layton vs. Ace Attorney, I'll be a happy fuckin guy! Welcome back Phoenix!
CAPCOM. JUST GIVE US THE GAME THIS TIME. FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, PLEASE.
I see the return of Phoenix Wright as the lead character as an act of cowardice. They tried something new and they're aren't going to stick with it, which saddens me. I personally like when the status quo changes, so even though I'm the only one who liked that change, I feel cheated that they couldn't follow through.
Ohwow. I must've clicked on the wrong headline. What self respecting human being would give a shit about this?
Oh yeah, right...NO self respecting human being would give a shit about this garbage.
Sweetness, hopefully they bring back Maya and Dick, it wouldn't be the same without them.
(Hell, if friggin Winston Payne is making an appearance, I sure hope Maya and Dick are.)
Hell yes.
@TheGlue29

@Excell I kind of agree, I felt the same way about the new Prince of Persia. That being said, I need more Phoenix Wright. NEED. Please Capcom, release this and the Phoenix Wright/Professor Layton game. I'll (almost) forgive the Megaman nonsense.
@protoknuckles:
Don't.
"Nothing against Apollo or Edgeworth"

Well... nothing against Edgeworth, anyway.
capcom i love you again
FREAKIN' SCHWEET!!
Permission to freak the f*ck out?

With pleasure!

WOOOOOOO! *crazy babble*
OH MY FUCK I AM EXCITE OMFG AGH

I NEED THIS RIGHT NOW.
Unless Capcom announces its being localized, I have 0 excitement for this.
FREAKING THE FUCK OUT
WELL FUCK.

I gotta start playing these now.
Can't get excited until its announced it's coming to the west.

This is Capcom we're talking about here. They'll probably localize RE:Zombie Banger first or some crap. It's not hate, I just done have Investigations 2 in English yet.
ACCEPTATION!
ROCKING THE SPIT CURL
Consider me FUCKING PUMPED
ORDER IN THE COURT!
Permission to freak the fuck out accepted.

Also, I had no idea the movie was being reviewed. And with a score 89! I'm super-psyched, can't wait. If there's manga then I need to get my hands on that too. Holmes, you are truly Destructoid's Santa today.
Playing through the first one now just because I'm a huge Takashi Miike fan. Awesome game, I have it on the DS but i might download the sequels when they hit ios just to save money.
Not sure how to feel about Shu Takumi having minimal involvement. AAI seemed completely lost outside of his influence.
Want this hard, big fan of the whole series. I'd nearly buy a 3DS to play it, but will just borrow. Yesssss!
I am freaking the fuck out. I swear, if this isn't localized, I'm going to learn the language. If it isn't localized, that's two AA games stuck in Japan.

...and get a Japanese 3DS. Fucking region lock!
do want
And there will be my 3DS bought, assuming that they actually bring this one over - there needs to be more pressure on them to release Edgeworth Investigations 2 as well even if only in mobile form
Yeah, watch this NEVER leave Japan.
^ why would this never leave japan? ( not like it matters)
I'll just leave this here
ah man post fail ah well
