Get Kinect-ed! Hey, that was Walmart's words, not mine.

They've already set up a dedicated page for Microsoft's motion-sensing product at Walmart.com. You can go there to learn about the tech as well as pre-order it. They have the pre-order set at $199, but note that your order comes with your choice of one game and a $30 Walmart.com gift card.

On the free game, you'll choose from:

  • Kinect Sports
  • Kinect Dance Central
  • Kinect Joy Ride
  • Kinectimals

It seems that other Kinect games will be added to this list.

Two-hundred bucks may sound like a lot, but you're getting a $60 game and a $30 gift card. This sounds like a pretty solid deal.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

Good luck at that price is all I gotta say.
If you hit the preorder button, you're presented with "Harry Potter: Deadly Hallows (Xbox 360/Kinect)" being one of the 5 games to choose. I personally wasn't aware Harry Potter was going to be a Kinect title. Did I miss something saying it was going to be?
I feel like everyone who buys this will end up regretting their decision.
It would be a good value if one of those Kinect games was actually worth $60.
The trouble is, those games aren't worth $60. Not even close, in fact. All that bonus does is bring one game back to a reasonable level. Move games are $40, which is a much more realistic price for this kind of thing.
@dr strangelove

"worth" is decided upon by the individual and seeing as kinect (like move and the wii) aren't aimed at core gamers it seems a little churlish to declare it as not being "worth" it.

I'm not flaming dude, just saying.
"Two-hundred bucks may sound like a lot, but you're getting a $60 game and a $30 gift card. This sounds like a pretty solid deal."

Ugh. From what was shown at E3, Kinect games should cost $20 dollars and the hardware itself with such underwhelming catalog is not worth the $150 they are charging. Definitely a rip off, not anywhere near a solid deal.
200 bucks to pretend that a tiger is licking your face!
I don't know if this was brought up but Walmart is advertising a movie called the Jensen project it it is going to have Kinect footage shown
this is anything but a "solid deal". more like an "attempt to separate an idiot from his/her money".
I thought the Kinect games were going to be bargain priced Shovelware at $30 a pop? If they are honestly going to charge $60 for this crap, they are kidding themselves.
I'd pick this up with Dance Central if this deal was in Canada.
@ khoas432

Go over to Kotaku - They have the vid posted from the movie. It's bad. Real, real bad.
@ azninvasion2000
I know right.

@ WalMart
Mr. Rollback should be coming?
I always thought that Wally World was, one of best deals.

@ Article
I'ld honestly would rather buy a 3DS. I really wanted a DSiXL too.
But Nintendo never stops making new models. :/
If Kinect actually does turn out to be $150 (and all signs are pointing to yes, it will) one would think Microsoft would include a game with the hardware to entice potential buyers. They should just bite the bullet and include 'Kinect Sports'. If they don't want this peripheral to die like so many other console peripherals, it's practically mandatory to include software. I don't think the Wii would have sold as well if 'Wii Sports' was not a pack-in. If Microsoft refuses to lose money on software then I think a $100 (or lower) price point would be the only way to go. Perhaps the lukewarm response at E3 has Microsoft not wanting to invest any more money on the project and it will quietly be forgotten, like the EyeToy.
As much as I'm excited for Kinect tech, the games announced shouldn't be full 60 dollar releases. I'd say 40 would be a stretch, beyond that they'd be better off including multiple games in a 60 dollar package. I also second the notion that a game should be included with the unit itself, similar to what Move is doing except Move doesn't give you everything you need within that package.

That said, I'm still picking up Kinect when I have the money, perhaps around Christmas I can snag one (hopefully for a sweet sale price) and one of the games with it. I'm interested to see it integrated into controller based games, like Fable 3. I want to see subtle features with it, not full on moco games.

Plus I'll be able to yell at my 360 now and it will respond to me.
"This sounds like a pretty solid deal."

Dale North, GTFO.
Just go. Go buy your little kinect and play with your little imaginary pet pals, but leave me out of it and don't encourage this destructive, casual tornado we call "microsoft."
@Bakewell

The issue I draw is the objective sense of worth. Something has a value aside from personal worth.

If I were to draw a parallel, I would say the Kinect seems to share some characteristics with the Sega-CD. Both are add-on products to already existent consoles. Both game libraries are littered with shovelware. Both demonstrated some sort of "new technology" that already existed. However, only the Sega-CD's technology didn't work and only it failed. Will Kinect continue the trend? If anything, the Sega-CD had on its side the appeal to the market already established by the Genesis, while Kinect is trying to make a new market in an already hardened and skeptical market that is the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 is primarily dominated by competitive shooters; not by Nintendogs/Kinectimals. You're looking to mostly new consumers to move this product.

The sheer illogicality of trying to get a new consumer of paying nearly $400 for an Xbox 360 and Kinect, with one bundled game or so, is outrageous. You don't overwhelm new consumers with high price-tags, especially in an established market in terms of this generation of consoles. The hardware itself isn't worth that much, and it's not as if it opens up doors to thousands of great Kinect games either. More or less it allows access to about, so far, twenty mediocre games.

The reason Nintendo overcomes its grapple with shovelware is their ability to be a first-class, first-party developer. Nintendo games are almost always a hit, and are excellent quality. That warrants a $60 price-tag, even though I think on the Wii they sell for less anyway. $60 does not warrant a game whose quality is significantly lower than a similarly-concepted Wii game.

You're paying for the gimmick, plain and simple.
@HazyCloud
I doubt it would be considering how they would not want to limit such games to one console... seriously, it would not at all surprise me that Walmart would include non-kinect games in the budle just to help push units... why rely on casual gamer shovelware when you can try to take advantage of movie-hyped fandom shovelware
Good luck Microsoft. Those games are worth $30 at most.
@ Monte

Interesting theory. I wouldn't put it past Wally to do something like that. As for limiting the game to one console, there shouldn't be any reason why it couldn't be released for Move or the Wii. From what I've read about the game, you are using spells and such which would seem perfect for motion controls.
Wait, so you don't already get a game packed in with Kenict? WTF? Is Microsoft stupid? They took so many different cues from Nintendo on how to get the casual market, yet they're not going to take the most obvious one of having a pack-in game. Well good luck Microsoft, because you're going to need it!
All the kinect hater kill me. The same guys posting the same comments in EVERY kinect topic that pops up.
I thought Destructoid would be reasonable and completely ignore all Kinect news we don't care about, but...
it is pretty funny the people saying the games are worth 40 dollars, no wait, now someone says 30 dollars, wait, i thought they were only worth 10 dollars. Geez really. I don't know what the games are worth to be honest, BECAUSE, i haven't played them and I have no idea how much content and how much it costs to create/develope the so unworthy games. I would bet that the people bitching about worth, have no idea either being the games are not even released yet.

Just saying. Gets irritating when people put a dollar amount on something they have NO idea about.. Typical for haters, fanboyisms, and well you know the rest. :)
"Kinect Sports"

Really guys? Really.
@Mastrmeatwad
Why do you care about other people's opinions?It's not like all the disdain in these comments for Kinect is going to stop you from buying (and enjoying??) it if you want it. All these people (including me) have their own valid reasons for mocking the utter fail that is Kinect and Move.

Fine, I'll say something positive about it. I'm really excited that not buying Kinect and Move is going to save me enough money to buy several more worthwhile games during the holiday rush or at the launch of the 3DS. Thanks Microsoft and Sony! :-D
Wait, I thought the $150 price being talked before about came with a game bundled? $199 is the Wii price right there (and that comes with a Motion+, Wii Sports and Wii Resort in addition to the console).

Apparently not. And I'm in the camp that even thinks the PS Move bundle (that comes with the controller + camera + game) is overpriced at $99.

These motion-control add-ons are sent out to die.
"XBOX! Make me a sandwich!"

(Gesticulates wildly)
Shouldn't the asterisk read *May need special banana adapter? I want to know if we will have to pay extra for those undesirable fees/cords. As it stands, I'm not biting.
The $150 version should have already included one of those games, but now they want to charge an extra $50 for that? lol fuck that shit. I really hope consumers won't be stupid enough to spend that much money for that.
If I had $200 to spend, I would spend it on, say . . . games.
Can't believe these games ae gonna be 60 Bucks Tssssss.... for shame Microsoft....for shame....
Meh, if a similar deal pops up over here I'll bite with Dance Central.

What? Stop looking at me like that. If I have the disposable income to dispose of then disposing it in such a disposable way is my choice is it not? If you disagree kindly dispose of yourself.

Also: (drunken parties + Dance Central) x (camcorder + You've Been Framed) = PROFIT.
@HazyCloud
Well there's also PC, but putting that aside...
Kinect is a different system than Move and Wii...
The navi/nunchuk, allows the games to give players free movement while using the wand with the movement control... Frankly without a similar controller, i don't see how Kinect could do the same; this is probably why games like star wars was turned into a rail shooter. Really i can't look past such an obvious limitation... now if you don't include physical feet and head movement, you might be able to make a game for kinect that can port over to the Move and Wii... but really this would all take a lot of effort to port when the movement controls are so different, and this is a game based on a movie; there is NEVER put that much effort into these things
I've just spotted a wild Kinect pricing for the UK, and I've got to say, that $150 you American peoples have to pay is looking pretty reasonable right now. Shopto.net has the peripheral RRP listed at Ł130, which is closer to $200 than anything. Considering they're doing the new 250gb Xbox for just Ł185, this is a real kick in the testicles for us.
@HazyCloud
Actually may have to scratch what i just said... wasn't able to find any info before, but i think i got some...
the game is gonna come to all platforms... Wiimote, and PS Move are indeed listed as input methods... so far nothing on kinects involvement though. So no idea if it will be coming to kinect or how it will be integrated... however, considering the wiki page is listing DS and mobile aswell, it is possible that what will come to the 360 may not be a direct port and may play differently (looking at a trailer, might not be hard to turn it into another rail shooter)... will have to wait and see
Fuck. That. Shit.
$200 for this? LMAO i thing $40 is too much for this usless piece of sh..t
the damn thing is just as expensive as a brand new wii

and you cant play with that thing alone you need a xbox360 beforehand

all i have to say is, that is bloody retarded
I think I'll wait until it's bundled with the Xbox 720.
I can't believe it's not going to come with a game in the box. That is a massive oversight.
Yeah, yeah MS fail etc, but the real winners in this will be the company that developed this tech (no, it wasn't MS) when it gets integrated into TVs in the near future, because they get licencing fees from MS and free publicity from all the MS lovin' mainstream media outlets
I had my doubts about Kinect, but damn.
