Dungeon Defenders Mistymire Forest DLC hit PSN, XBLA

Conrad Zimmerman, Managing Editor

I've become rather hooked on the charming action-strategy combination in Dungeon Defenders. While the latest new content for the game dropped last week, Xbox 360 and PS3 players have just now received access and it looks like more of the same delightful game.

Good timing, too. The initial set of stages, while certainly enjoyable, have just started to wear out their welcome with me. You can grab "The Lost Eternia Shards: Mistymire Forest" DLC for Dungeon Defenders on Steam or PSN for $3.99 or 320 MS Points on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

I want this, but I want people to play with. Oh the dilemma
This game is amazing <3 DLC is a bit of a challenge, especially with getting used to the new enemies. But overall, amazing.
I've put 86 hours into this game so far according to Steam. I think it might be my GOTY. And it will really go nuts once people start modding for it.
The fucking spiders on the new levels make it near unplayable. They fucking spawn on top of the crystals and drop down but usually go for towers. They shoot web that prevents towers from shooting and you from moving. Plus you can't heal while webbed, and they just keep shooting web at you, and you cant attack. You are fucking stuck and you die. I have tried coop with 3 people and fail every fucking time on normal with level 50 characters.

I am pissed at those fucking cunt ass spiders.
@Jack:

At least you aren't one of the people complaining they can't play X game because they are afraid of spiders.
I too loved this game.

And I have ~180+ hrs into this game so far according to steam. at ~80hrs I probably would have said GOTY too.... unfortunately this games biggest hurdle to that seems to be Trendy itself.
I want this but I almost want to re-buy the game on PC and toss my PS3 copy out of my mind forever.

Console support is non existent from Trendy. The 1st (FIRST) patch is "supposed" to be out in January, I think PC is up to version 8.0 or something already :/ and the Squire class is still OP. We don't have the cross platform play that was promised and sooo much content is missing.....bah
@mix

Trust me you are not missing anything... I would be far happier with this game if it wasn't for the haphazard patching. When you get up to revision 'e' of a patch in so many days and every revision seems to undo what the last patch did... nerf, un-nerf, re-nerf, re-un-nerf, re-re-re-nerf ....etc ..... something is seriously wrong...
@Mix

Even though I have the PC version, I have to agree at their absolute lack of support on the consoles. Considering on the PC they have already released ten DLC packs. Which is quite a healthy chunk since it only came out in what mid-October?

They need to cool it a bit on the content (just for a very short period of time!!!) and work on some balancing on both the consoles and PC. My personal peeve right now is how the Ranger has completely replaced the Huntress as his abilities completely take hers and adds more effects. Then they are coming out with the Barbarian and Series EV characters which who the heck knows how they will affect the balance further.

Despite all of this, it is an amazing game. Quite fun and addictive, with an element of something for everyone to enjoy.
One of the ton of PC DLC (both free and paid) offerings has actually made it to the console versions? I'm surprised.
@jack
I hear tell proxy mines work wonders for the spiders. Spiders can't disable them and I guess the spiders have really low hp. Personally I am glad for a new challenge. I for one didn't want to be able to steamroll through this.
I agree. There's been too much patching and too much DLC. I feel like if I take a break to play some other games, when I come back I'm going to have to buy a bunch more DLC to 'catch up.' Though based on responses to that on the Steam forums, some people love the constant flow of content.

As for supporting the console versions, some of the issues probably involve Sony and Microsoft. They are slow at approving updates, and they don't like devs giving away stuff for free. I suspect what they're planning is one big patch for consoles in January that catches them up to the PC version.

I don't see cross-platform (at least pc/console) ever being workable.
@Jinx 01
A constant flow of content makes people feel like the game is still alive and keeps offering new things to keep them interested.

The "keep them interested" part is the same kind of logic that encourages unlockables in fighting games. If you have everything available, you play it all quickly and quickly get bored. If you keep giving them new little bits, they play through the available, then play with each new bit as it becomes available.

For Dungeon Defenders, each new map is a new experience. New characters are new things to try, and you have to burn a bit of time to see if they are worth pursuing.

Updates and patches show the game is being maintained. As long as they aren't failed patches, it can even be acceptable that something gets bounced back and forth between buffs and nerfs. (Bad patches are stuff like Modern Warfare 3's repeated failed attempts to fix broken lag compensation, or if Skyrim had every patch include such blunders like breaking resistances for everything. Or possibly just adjusting minor issues without touching the major issues. (MW3 arguably falls into that category as well, with its horrible spawn system not being fixed, or that there is almost no possibility of headglitching being addressed as the maps almost seem designed to exploit it, or the other big issues that the game has.))
