Go back to space with Earth Defense Force for PS Vita

There's nothing quite like a port of a five year-old game to get you stoked about your brand new system. Hey! Wait! Come back! I'm being serious! D3 Publisher is bringing Earth Defense Force 3 Portable to PlayStation Vita and I'm legitimately excited to take the "so bad it's good" shooter around for another spin.

Probably better known on this side of the Pacific as Earth Defense Force 2017, Sandlot's 2007 Xbox 360 release is shedding its exclusivity after half a decade to find a second home on the Vita with some subtle enhancements. No, the graphics are still as ugly as sin, but four player co-op might be a welcome addition if you have a few other friends interested in saving the world from giant bugs.

While it's currently only slated for an autumn release in Japan, I'd be surprised if D3 didn't bring the title westward at some point considering the series' cult popularity and the dearth of software available for Sony's new portable.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

So is this all the Vita does? Ports...?

Most of the system's launch titles were ports and the only game I've bought since was the port of Disgaea 3. At least this time it's a game I don't already own...
OH GOD YESSSSS!
As I told a friend..."'Merica NAO!"
Maybe multiplayer can have a proper framerate now
EDF! EDF! EDF!
I'll take twenty.
So much better than the more recent one. If this was a new EDF game that was more like 2017 than Insect Armageddon, I'd buy a Vita regardless of what the rest of the library looked like.
Lol @ the "NGP News" thing in that video. Anybody remember what the Vita used to be called?

Also: it's one thing when a game from a computer or home console gets ported to another computer or home console. It's another when it's ported to a portable system. If Rockstar announced a portable version of GTA IV or Red Dead I'd be all over that shit.

And when are options a bad thing?? If you want original games on Vita you got Tales from Space, Lumines, Gravity Rush, Stardust Delta, Uncharted, Wipeout, Hot Shots, MotorStorm, MLB, and Unit 13. If that's not enough for you, I think you have too much time on your hands. In the meantime, you're welcome to get excited for a portable version of a game that most people haven't played, and those who did haven't done so in years.
:DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Please come to the US. PLEASE COME TO THE US!
Welp. They just 100% sold me a Vita. Betweenthis and persona, done.
perfect example of how bad Vita support really is. i've seen some forum posts on VGChartz about port of EDF for Vita and it's already hyped as the second coming of jesus by sony fanboys there - EDF as "THE system seller", let that sink in for a minute.
Port Station Vita
Damn, Vita needs some gaems real right quick.
@MattEdWithCheese

In fact no, the Vita does not just do ports. That's a bit of disinformation that should really be stopped.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Vita_games

I count 26 Vita exclusives on that list. About a dozen of them were available at launch or shortly within the launch window. Several more of those may well be exclusives for all I know, I'm just not personally familiar with them. I just know the 26 I counted for certain.

I think you'll find the Vita has a significantly higher port-to-exclusive ratio than even the PS3, and more continue to be announced on a regular basis, including a pretty large number shown at E3.

The more you know! :D
EDF EDF EDF EDF EDF EDF!!!!!!!!!

please please D3 port Onechnabara Kagura Z for PS3 with all the DLC please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i can play it alongside with my Lollipop Chainsaw :P
Soooooooooo, a co-op patch for EDF 2017 could conceivably happen? :3
Just got a Vita yesterday, and I'm trying to atone for all the smack I've talked about it. I love this thing. <3 On topic, this will be an instant-buy for me if it comes to the US (which it probably will.)
"Co-op" was the only word I was looking for. And OMG, THUR IT IS!
@sofik

You've obviously either not played EDF or I would hate to have your taste in games.
@sofik: pretty high horse ya got there dude. What's your favorite game, so I can trash it?
I'm pretty impressed that Sony is really trying to get games on the Vita as fast as possible. A lot quicker than Nintendo with it's 3DS launch even.
They better God Damn bring this awesome fucking game to the US or I'm going to be pissed.
@MattEdWithCheese

??? Most of the Vita's launch games were awesome. Unit 13 wasn't a port. Dynasty Warriors Next wasn't a port. Shinobido 2 wasn't a port. Escape Plan wasn't a port. Mutant Blobs Attack wasn't a port. Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational wasn't a port. Touch My Katamri wasn't a port. Army Corps of Hell wasn't a port. Mod Nation Racers: Roadtrip wasn't a port. Super Stardust Delta wasn't a port. Uncharted: Golden Abyss wasn't a port. Lumines: Electric Symphony wasn't a port. Little Deviants wasn't a port. Plus we now have Resistance: Burning Skies and Gravity Rush.

If all you bought was one game when you have all of those awesome, exclusive games to choose from, that's your own damn fault and nobody else.
Oh yes, put this game inside me.
I have 2 copies for 360 and I'd buy it all over again for Vita.
@EKGProd

Oh I bought many games, I spent over £250 on Vita games at launch, I just didn't enjoy many of them... Was looking forward to Resistance and then I played the demo... Was looking forward to Gravity Rush and then I found out you are required to use the touchscreen to dodge... So while I will play the games I already own, the only thing I'm looking forward to is PS1 game compatibility... Yay...
The fact that people are defending a port of 5 year old game that already has a sequel is amusing.
@Matt
Using the screen to dodge in Gravity Rush is not as bad as you think. Mostly because you rarely even need to dodge and also the kick button is literally right next to the screen.
EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! FOR GOD DAMN 'MURICA!
@maniac

I don't see anyone defending a game here. I see people excited to play one, and they have no need to defend that. It's a beautiful thing.
There is no sequel to EDF 2017. Yet.
I've never played this, and it looks pretty damn good so yeah... I'm glad they are porting this. If only they ported Shenmue 1 & 2 to vita...
@MattEdWithCheese You literally have to move your thumb a centimetre to the left, its like pressing another button.
This will be a System seller in Japan. Considering the original one was a 360 exclusive and we all know how many japanese own one.
@t0rment0r1970
If it takes a 5 year old console port attempting to boost Vita's sales in Japan, it'll be moreso of a testament of Vita's lackluster reception than anything else.

Vita isn't exactly flying off shelves.
Bring back the character classes and I am genuinely sold on this, the EDF set up has always sort of suited a portable platform.
