Sundays with Sagat: Dead Rising and dead Birdie

Jonathan Holmes, Site Mascot
4:20 PM on 09.01.2010

This is the last episode of Sundays with Sagat before the proposed reboot of the show. We'll get a sneak peak of Sagat's new take on the series this Saturday during Destructoid LIVE PAX panel. Until then, behold -- the death of Birdie.

At least, I think he died. It's not the death by fire that I asked for the last time he showed up, but the situation looks equally impossible to escape from. Don't feel bad, it's nothing that he doesn't deserve. If the guy had worked harder on developing his feline social skills the way that Sagat has, maybe he wouldn't be in this pickle.

Oh, and he before he gets caught in a death trap, Birdie talks about Dead Rising, particularly the difference between Dead Rising and Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop . As usual, he's a bit off, but I practically, maybe, sort of agree with him on this one. It almost makes me hope that he survived.

Almost.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

Though I like Sundays with Sagat, I really can't agree with this video. Maybe thi is mostly due to the fact that I prefer a controller over the Wii-mote and chuck.

But I also found that Dead Rising was at its best when you just saw a sea of zombies in front of you and you could take them out. the Wii version instead had to compensate by including poodles and parrots to match the intensity of the original Dead Rising.

Now I know that was clever for the Wii to do but its still detracted from the overall game. In my opinion anyway.
No cat chick thing huh? Or maybe there is and I can't see it because I didn't watch it?

Holmes, you are operating on a whole 'nother level I swear. I question the sanity of you and your associates.
That was fucked up.
I really liked it!
That was amazing.
I love this.
@ captpudge - Not agreeing with Birdie is usually a good thing.

As for Dead Rising Wii and Dead Rising 360, they're so different. The Wii version is really just a re-skinned Resident Evil 4 in a mall, and with crappier graphics and bosses.

Since Resident Evil 4 is one of my favorite games ever, that works for me.

@ Xzyliac- Thanks! And yeah, there is a "cat chick thing" in this video, just not in the way that I think you mean.
definitely one of the funnier episodes so far.

Birdie is so goddamn lovable.
How I actually understand these videos, I'll never know! Well, up to the whole Albert Whiskers thing!

Anyway, I think the 360 version of Dead Rising will always be misunderstood and part of that blame can lie with Capcom half-heartedly advertising the fact that it's not a sandbox game. Still, after so many years, you'd think some people out there would finally get a clue.
Bye bye Birdie!
I absolutelly love birdie.
@ Tony Ponce: Ha! I get it.

Also this video is lovely. I'm excited and curious about the reboot!
Being gently prodded and pawed to death by silly people in costumes is a rough way to go.
Will Birdie make it out? Will we ever know? Best Cliffhanger ever I'll say!
still can't figure out how to navigate this place but I signed up so at least I can see what you up too!

looking for that pac man thing you told me about

read thru a few of the last posted stories, they are great!

Sunday's with Sagat: will check those out another time perhaps!
Dude, is your cat really named Albert Whiskers? If so, YOU ARE THE GREATEST PERSON EVER!
Brilliant! This was awesome!
@ Bubb- Oh my God, it's the Ranma poster!

I love you, Bubb! Thanks for the support!
I love Birdie.
RIP Birdie.

*salute*
I think it is official, I love Birdie more than Sagat. And now he's dead. REBOOT HIM TO LIFE.
cool, more painfully unfunny video content from destructoid. keep it up, drive people with an IQ over 50 away!
STEPH HOLT!
lmfao , Albert Whiskers. This video has everything. Was laughing from start to end.
WHISKEEEEERS! Holmes, I genuinely have no idea how you could put such a random sequence of events together and make it work - bravo, I think that was your funniest one yet!
@ extendd- Trolling both me, all the site's video content, and its audience in two sentences? Pretty good effort, but I remain unconvinced that you didn't enjoy the video, even if that enjoyment came from mocking it.

Why would you have watched it if you really didn't like it? More so, why would you bother to comment?

These are the questions you have to anticipate before pretending to hate something in order to feign a false sense of superiority to your internet peers. If you can't fabricate a credible explanation for why you intentionally subjected yourself to something "painfully unfunny", no one will take you trolling seriously.

"I could even get through the whole thing it was so bad" sometimes works, but not in this case, as nothing intentionally funny happens in this one until the last minute or so. "My little brother was watching this and I saw it over his shoulder. I told him to turn it off because it would rot his brain." might be better, but it still doesn't explain why you'd be inspired to comment.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it eventually. For now though, you're not really cutting the mustard.

I will, however, award double points for ignoring capitalization, and the unnecessary exclamation mark at the end.

4.5/10 on the Troll scale.

@ Everyone else- Thanks again for giving this series a chance. I can't tell you how exciting it is to check the comments on this post and see so many people not totally hating it.

Sundays with Sagat has been an unpredictable experiment from the start, and it's probably only going to get more unpredictable from here. Yep, I'm predicting that it will get more unpredictable.

Irony.

I can't say if Birdie (or Albert Wiskers) will be back or not, but knowing that some of you would like the seem them again means a lot to me.
@Jonathan Holmes
I'm sorry if you think this was a troll, it really isn't. I was merely stating my opinion on this video and your video content in general.

As for why I would watch it, I tend to give all of your content a chance and give my opinion in the comments. I delude myself into thinking that feedback might make you consider the opinions of your readers who aren't jobless teenagers.

I didn't enjoy blasting this video, I would have rather seen something enjoyable. I only tend to comment when I see something wrong so I did so.
I would just like to say Genius on the part of Mr. Holmes.
Can this man ever do wrong?
@ extendd- Ah, the old "I wasn't being a troll. I was engaging in constructive criticism when I insulted you and your "jobless teenage readers" while offering absolutely no insight as to why I didn't like your video."

No originality there, my friend.

2/10.
I feel special when i get the robocop jokes. Also Shaun of the dead perhaps? I hope this series stays similar to how it is now. At least in humor.
ugh, don't waste your time on that fool Holmes. this is funny stuff that everyone here, save for one clueless jerk seems to dig, can't wait for the new stuff.
also, Albert Whiskers is the best/cheapest to hire villain ever
Haters gonna hate, Mr. Holmes. : ) Thoroughly entertaining. Keep up the good work, and keep the strangeness coming!!!
@Tron

Using your kitty worked a hell of a lot better than a real person! I want to name one of my cats Albert Whiskers now!!!
@Jonathan Holmes
I wasn't aware that "constructive feedback" was a requirement of posting on this site. I recommend that you please add it to the comments policy so in the future that others will know.

You seem to believe that anyone who posts anything negative is a troll, which is a rather silly way of looking at the world. If you wanted something more in-depth, I'd have to watch video again and I don't want to do that. I've given all the episodes a watch and they tend to be meandering and poorly written. While I won't criticize the pandering, since you're on a special interest website, I just feel that it is rarely a clever type of humor.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to me, even though I seem like a troll. I get the same reaction in real-life. I assure you though, I am real and am in no way masking my real opinion or personality.

p.s. Maligning me shows how insecure you are about the content you produce. While I am critical of it, I encourage you to keep making it. If you don't, how will you ever get better?
I need more Sundays with Sagat, I can't wait to see the new show!

I hope Birdie makes it too.
i just want a spin off series for birdie
So tired! Drunk off exhaustion, meatloaf and 20 cups of coffee. Love you guys!

Even you, extendd. You are coming around. In my mind, we are friends now.
@extendd I can see exactly where you are coming from, however I don't want the content to not be meandering and poorly written. I like birdie because he meanders into ridiculous places and I find the generally low quality production to be charming. This is the issue with statements like:

"cool, more painfully unfunny video content from destructoid. keep it up, drive people with an IQ over 50 away!".

First of all, people of a normal IQ can enjoy low brow entertainment, and frankly I'm surprised someone so clearly intelligent such as yourself is looking for their high brow content on a gaming blog.
Secondly, there are a lot of people that like this series just the way it is, happy to let it progress in the direction Jonathan takes it, trusting that it will improve with time. You seem to expect something to be catered more towards your individual tastes... the internet is a big place, I'm sure you can find somewhere that suits you perfectly.

@Jonathan This was one of my favourite eps and I'm looking forward to the reboot. As I mentioned above, I feel like the meandering is good for birdies character, but since his future is unknown (!) I will suggest this; with Sagat himself you also tend to meander and repeat yourself but because the tone is less silly it doesn't work as well. I think it would be better if you were a little more concise. Just try not to reiterate the same point more than once in one video.

I enjoy your work, keep it up.
@ Mathai- Thanks for the constructive criticism. I agree that Sagat needs to be a little tighter in his ramblings, as without an accent or an awesome Mohawk, he's inherently less interesting.

It's all sort of moot anyway, as the reboot will likely change everything, but all the same, your thoughts are duly noted. I appreciate it!
