Fifty Shades of Grey got b*tch slapped by Hyrule Historia photo

Who says there's no justice in the world?

Just yesterday, we learned that the highly demanded Zelda bible Hyrule Historia is being localized for the US, UK, Australia, and certain other parts of Europe. I originally used the world "bible" because the book is a comprehensive compendium of Zelda lore. Now I'm starting to think that the religious connotation of the word "bible" is equally appropriate, because the book has just performed a miracle.

Pre-orders have opened on Amazon, where Hyrule Historia is currently marked at a juicy discounted price of $20.99. In but a single day, it was able to shoot to the top of Amazon's "Best Sellers in Books" chart, overtaking the vile Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. This is a joyous occasion that deserves to be celebrated with alcohol and promiscuous behavior!

How could so many women be roped into this Fifty Shades garbage? I've asked several customers at my local Barnes & Noble why they were interested, and the most popular answer is "it's what everyone else is getting, so it must be good." The Fifty Shades series is FACTUALLY worse than the Twilight series. Why? Because it was originally conceived as Twilight fan fiction! That's not the bottom of the barrel, that's breaking through the bottom, tunneling deep underground, and rupturing a septic tank.

So thank you, Link and Zelda, for saving literature.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

"Hey guys, I have a great idea. Let's make porn, but you have to read it! No pictures, no video, just words!"

It sells millions.
Thank God
Great news!

Next step: Have Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis read excerpts from it.
Anyways, I'm glad that Fifty Shades of Grey got knocked down... or should I say... knocked... UP? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
No link happiness for me (or is it 'Link' happiness?).
Wait, this gray thing is popular because... it's popular? Interesting... that's only a few steps away from being well known because it isn't well known. Like Millard Fillmore.
Sounds like a self help book for nihilists.
Write controversial book; acquire profit
@masterherox -- Yeah, or Fillard Millmore.
This makes me happy.
I pre-ordered this, This along with the Link Figma will make me very happy.

As for 50 Shades I won't judge a book without reading it, It seems to be another case of I'm going to hate something because it's popular. I don't like it when people tell me they hate something I like, so I don't do the same to them.
@Scissors -- I can't say I dislike it because it's popular.

If I had to think of a reason why I dislike it, it'd be because it presents itself as intelligent well-written sophisticated literature intended for a mature audience and is, in fact, none of those things.
@Scissors

It's penthouse porn dressed up as high-class literature, and it turns out that was originally fan fiction for Twilight, another book series with dubious claims to validity. These are perfectly good reasons to hate it.
FUCK YEA VIDEOGAMES WIN AGAIN! EAT IT ROMANCE NOVELS, EAT IT
People think 50 Shades is sophisticated? And here I thought it was popular because it was shamelessly low-brow . . .
I guess I should have phrased that better. If you have valid reasons to dislike it that's fine. Such as disliking Twilight because I've heard that the male characters are controlling and obsessive, but disliking Twilight just cause it's popular is kind of annoying. I shouldn't have lumped everyone together like that.
I wasn't going to buy this. Then you had to go and mention this stupid low price....
damn that's a nice price :D

amazon wins again :P
@Tony - not that i'm taking the side of 50 shades , but I don't think anyone ever claimed it was high-class literature!
Yeah, I don't think a book about a videogame overtaking books about twilight would be taken as a good sign from most people Especially those with a low opinion on videogames. Actually, the fact that both these things are selling well would probably be a sign to them that our culture has reached the bottom of the barrel.
Let's see a follow up story if the Zelda book can remain in the top 100 bestsellers for 100+ days like the trilogy has.
My faith in humanity has been slightly restored.
Okay, so how does preordering on Amazon work? I preordered it yesterday when it was $25, and now it's $20.
Okay, never mind, I read about it. I guess I'm just trying to figure out when my card will be charged.
@chiptoon -- Romance novels don't typically receive massive press from the likes of the New York Times. Look at the other books published by Vintage Press, and you may notice this series is a bit of an odd-ball in the mix.

Though, I must admit, I often confuse this series with the scandalous but as-yet-unreleased 50 Shades of Hay detailing the irreverent lustful relationship burgeoning between several lonely equines at a Lexington horse farm.
50 shades is just more social engineering for the feeble minded ladies out there tha suck up anything they are told to.
Don't know what this Grey thing is about, but I do know that things don't sell well because they're good. They sell because people rely on each other to spread the word and "prove" quality through popularity. In order to fit into society, people will subconsciously change themselves to agree that something is good. They automatically seek reasons to justify and accept popular belief. It takes a lot to try and see things from all angles. Fact is, most people are incapable of being fair or balanced. They can only see things from a single perspective, and never consider that they may be missing most of the big picture.

I've seen this occur in various different ways. A relevant example is when someone purchases an over-hyped but disappointing game, and has engaged in arguments with friends in defense of it. They will not want to back down and admit they were wrong, or that they wasted money purchasing the game. They will lie to themselves and their friends to perpetuate the illusion that the game is good. This spreads outward through social groups, as more and more people delude themselves, until everyone beliefs that the game is great... when in fact, it is not. Those who are able to see through this become ridiculed and excluded from society. The worst thing about being an expert or knowledgeable about anything is that only other experts can understand you.

TLDR: Popularity has no correlation with quality. Popularity is heavily influenced by desire for social acceptance.
Before you celebrate, look into how Amazon sorts these lists.
This is great news :D
I remember a girl in my English class told my teacher to read 50 Shades, saying it's great literature. I sincerely hope he didn't read it. The dramatic readings are good enough evidence to say that it's trash.
@ Scissors

Don´t Forget Bella using the poor wolf guy to make her more happy when vampire dude is not there to make her a pricess, and afther she abaddon the wolf dude when vampire guy returns.
Writing a collection of information about the Zelda franchise's numerous settings, characters, ennemies, and items would make total sense if, you know, the Zelda lore was cohesive, logical, or not pulled out of the director's ass.
vile is too good a word to describe Fifty Shades of Grey
Fifty Shades of Gay
Battle of the nerd books 2012!
@sheppy

I don't anyone here is dumb enough to think that Hyrule Historia has flat-out outsold Fifty Shades. The list is based on rate of sales. As of this moment, Hyrule Historia is the fastest-selling book on Amazon.
BrainWasherAttendent: 50 shades is just more social engineering for the feeble minded ladies out there tha suck up anything they are told to.

My chick read this book but hasn't sucked up anything. I want a refund
Hoping there's a section about Link pulling out Zelda's tampon and fucking here in a bath while she's on her period. Then no-one will need to read 50 shades ever again!
Haha! That's awesome! Didn't know there were so many Zelda fans, let alone so many who would actually order the book.

I didn't know it was actually officially coming to the UK. I just ordered it right now.
I love when men complain about 50 Shades of Grey. Why? Because they are idiots. First of all, look at some of the shit you love. Is it all Catcher and the Rye quality? Also, its a sex thriller. A KINKY sex thriller. What, you guys hate sex? You hate kinky sex. Get over your prejudices of women's opinions and have sex with them already!!!
(Drops the mic)
@Alex Barbatsis

Yes, people who criticise 50 Shades are idiots. Not the people who read the dreck. I don't know why you're targeting men either, the book isn't exactly empowering to women either. And the sex described is hilariously, awfully written by someone who started out writing Twilight fan fiction.

A male, 50 shades White Knight. Fucking hilarious.
@Masterballs
I've only heard men have such vitriolic attacks against the book. I don't care if people like it or not. I don't care if its good or not. I have no interest in the book itself. I think its hilarious that men (majority of the vocal detractors of the book) are so against something, which they probably haven't read, that is for women and sexual. Are you guys that afraid to get a blowjob?

@TonyPonce Have you read the book?
"How could so many women be roped into this Fifty Shades garbage?"

Probably in a similar way to the people being roped in by the above Zelda garbage? =/
i'm sorry, but both 50 Shades of Grey and Twilight make Nicolas Sparks and whatever-that-crappy-Heigl-movie-is-based-on look like Shakespeare. they both terribly written and the fact that 50 Shades of Grey was originally free Twilight porn-fiction(that wasn't even popular from what i saw) that was turned into a book and due to copyright issues had a change in characters and settings is just mind boggling.

what infuriates me, though, is the fact that currently those 2 series are not only the most popular books among women. apparently these books are most, i don't know even how to call it, "respected" by female audience. we, men, are called pigs we are called superficial, sexists etc. but here we have 2 series:
1st about sexual abuse both physical and mental(and later rape) of underage and very superficial) girl by group of dudes who is all happy and don't give a crap about it. and that's called "young adult series" as "for girls up to 13-15 year old, who treat that bitch as a role model - the only plus here is the fact that in a few years we will have influx of new pornstars, strippers and VERY kinky girlfriends,
2nd is a straight BDSM-porn internet-story,

even Hunger Games trilogy, - which has very strong female for this type of novel - i would thought was more popular among female readers, but apparently, it's not.
i love that awhile ago people were outraged by Tomb Raider(funny, only male part of audience is outraged) or how in Newsroom, a show where everyone is portrayed as flawed character with principles, people were outraged that female characters had flaws(JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER CHARACTER IN THAT SHOW) - cause apparently women should be portrayed as perfect human beings from 1950s TV shows.
Alex Barbatsis,
yeah i'm an idiot because i would like to meet and marry a women that is funny, smart and stand for what women fought over the last century, independence and their free will. not one that thinks that rape is okay and acts like she was molested by her father.

when Twilight character is considered a ROLE MODEL by 10-15 year old girls, you should be disturbed.
@Alex Barbatsis
Damn, you didn't just attack a strawman, you attacked a field of strawmen with such a sweeping generalization that has no facts to back it up, anyway.
Alex Barbadude: If you haven't heard "vitriol" from women, you aren't listening to the right people. I read the product description when I heard all the hullabaloo about this book and said "No, fuck you." My opinion has only deepened since hearing dramatic readings of the just awful sex scenes. I'm deeply disappointed in my gender. As an attorney, I would also like to make this abundantly clear: a sex contract is not enforceable. At all. Ever.

And no, not everything I read is Catcher in the Rye. That book is not to my tastes at all. Haven't the faintest why it's so controversial.
"originally conceived as Twilight fan fiction"

that is the most horrifying sentence I've read in my whole life as of yet.

As a woman, I'm ashamed this, and Twilight, are bestsellers.
YEAH! VIDEOED GAMESSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VIDEO GAMESSSSS TAKE THAT, VAGINAS!
Gamers: bitch about any and all dlc. Sell me a book at $20 when $10 has become the standard price... Now that's a nice price! A strange and indecipherable lot we are.
