Unreal Engine 3 shown running on Windows 8, RT

At the IFA 2012 trade show, currently taking place in Berlin, Epic Games and NVIDIA showed the first public demonstration of Unreal Engine 3 running on Windows 8 and Windows RT. A live demo of Epic's "Epic Citadel" was shown running on the Asus Vivo Tab RT.

Mark Rein, Epic's VP, said that they ported the full engine instead of modifying the mobile version, and that this should make it easy for devs to bring content to Windows 8 and Windows RT. The Windows RT code is available to licensees now.

This is a big deal for Microsoft and Windows as full, beefy games can be brought to mobile platforms.

What do you think about how it looks? Pretty slick for a tablet, I'd say.

OH GODS PLEASE PUT INFINITY BLADE ON WINDOWS TABLET 8!
That is pretty slick!

I hope the new Windows tablet is cheap as I might grab one.
Hmm ok, so that's epic citatel. There's any difference between that and the iOS one? Because I thought UE3 would have be much more visually, I mean.
"Pretty slick for a tablet, I'd say."

Is there a relevant tablet out today that the Unreal 3 engine doesn't run on?
Would prefer to see them putting this sorta work in to the Vita.
At this point, they could announce that it works on toasters, and I wouldn't raise an eyebrow at it. It seems to grab more attention if something DOESN'T meet the specs for UE3.

Also, Windows 8, RT? Gaming? Hahaha, I'll pass.
Glad that ARM hardware is finally being put to use with an operating system that will allow games to do more than the typical smoke and mirrors that you see in unimpressive games like Infinity Blade.
Windows rt fails much better to use a x86 tablet and run regular windows 8
like actually a lot of the tablet makers do.
There's USB ports on the top of this tablet. Score.
@ctg867

And they've accomplished this by porting over the engine Infinity Blade runs on how?
Looks awesome. Can't wait to get a gaming-capable tablet
Yeah, but if it's not an iPad, it's like not even worth it, know what I mean?
@Hasney

They didn't. Destructoid didn't bother to cover it for whatever reason, but the version of UE3 that Epic ported to Windows RT is the Windows x86-64 version, not the iOS/Android ARM version. While the assets for this specific demo are largely ported over because the hardware is the same, the software is not, which would allow for more technically capable games if developers actually use it.

So yea. That's "how".
Fuck yeah. strap on an xbox360 controller !
