What are your predictions for Nintendo's Wii U event?

What are your predictions for Nintendo's Wii U event? photo

Tomorrow morning at 10AM EDT (7AM PDT), Nintendo is hosting a preview event in New York City and is expected to make a huge announcement (or most likely announcements) regarding the Wii U. It is pretty obvious that it will be the official release date, price, and other specific goodies surrounding the upcoming release of their new console.

But what do you think the details of these announcements will be?

Here are my predictions: November 11th release date, $249.99 final price (this is super low, but I have a gut feeling), Nintendo Land will be a pack-in (this would be a smart and almost vital move), Pikmin 3 releasing in very early 2013 (I want that game yesterday, but I don't see it launching with the system).

What do you think? Do you think my predictions are accurate? What do you think Nintendo will announce? Make sure to check out Destructoid early tomorrow morning for all the exciting details.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

I really hope the $250 asking price will be true. I think they learned from their original 3DS pricing, and hopefully the understand that they need to hit the pricing out of the park.
I predict very good things. :D.... :P.
I think your predictions are right on.

Is there any decent software that is likely to launch with the WiiU? Not ports, new stuff.
Most likely the Wii U is going to be $250 and release on Nov 18. Most of the games from Nintendo press conference are going to be luanch gamea. But the games are going to cost $60. That includes Nintendo games.
I say the price is going to be $300. $250 would be nice, but if it's over $350, Nintendo is screwed. Also I think there's going to be mention of the new Smash in one way or another.

Also, I would love to see them announce that Gamecube games are coming to the Wii U virtual console, and though I know it's a Wii U event, some mention of upcoming 3DS games would be awesome.
300 price and new game announced
Oh my God...

Where did you get that picture?!

It is SCREAMING for a good 'Shoppin'!
i'm also in the $300 price camp too. i thought nintendo land was an obvious packin like Wii Sports was? or am i assuming? hehe
Just trying not to get my hopes up. Made that mistake with E3.
If it's $250, I'll buy it at launch. If not, I'll wait.
I'm hoping that they will announce more original 1st and 3rd party IP for the Wii U, and put less attention on Nintendo Land and games that are already out for other systems, but we all know that's pretty unlikely. $250-$300 price range would also be something to hope for.
$300 bucks, November 18th.

No chance they're going to release the same day as Paper Mario 3ds and cannibalize those sales.
I'll make it so everyone one is right.
Multiple SKUs ranging from $250-350
Cheapest SKU-bear bones Wii U. Only the console and 1 gamepad
mid SKU- Wii U, Nintendo land, a couple of wiimotes, 1 gamepad
most expensive SKU- Wii U, Nintendo land, (some other game), a couple of wiimotes, a gamepad, and a pro controller
11th of November-18th of November.
They will probably announce a couple of new games, but don't expect anything huge
$250 november launch would be nice personally I hope they announce a wii to wii u virtual console transfer, i got a shit ton of games that i dont wanna lose.
I predict a super mario bros game.
A "new" one.
People need to also keep in mind that whatever they announce may not necessarily apply to other regions but Japan.

The Wii, when it launched in Japan, didn't have Wii Sports as a pack-in, but the console was cheaper.

I can see them doing the same this time.
COPY AND PASTE TIME.

Social crap
New super rehash bros U
More social crap
Nintendo Land
Games we've already seen
Ports of things that are or will be available for months on other consoles
No talk of price point.
My hopes are that there's a cheap model with a small hardrive that makes it so I can use SD cards instead, that the controller range is large enough to work in any room in my house, that I can put the system into sleep mode like on DS & 3DS, and that they announce a new game that isn't a mini-game collection or Mii game.
To trust in $250 is naive. They charged that much for 3DS.
@Kyousuke Nanbu
"No talk of price point."

Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't that the WHOLE POINT of this presentation?

And you know, the important part in a "prediction" exercise it to say things we don't already KNOW will happen.

...unless your prediction is "nothing new will happen", which would be weird for them to hold a press conference for.
@Tahiri
"To trust in $250 is naive. They charged that much for 3DS."

...and we know what happened, AND they admired it was a mistake, AND they stated they wouldn't repeat that with this system.

It's not written in stone, but it also isn't out of the question.
I think the 3 SKUs, $250-$350 price range, with different pack-ins (Core+GamePad, Core+GamePad+NintendoLand, Core+GamePad+Wiimote+NintendoLand) is probably going to happen. All available in Black or White.

I'm more curious about the 3rd party game reveals. I think we'll see BlOps2, hopefully Bioshock Infinite.
MSRP of $349.99 coming with 1 WiiU, 1 WiiU Gamepad, 1 Copy of Nintendoland, a 120gb HDD and an HDMI Cable.

They will also offer a second SKU for MRSP of 299.99 with 1 WiiU, 1 Gamepad, a 40gb HDD, and an HDMI cable.

Will launch in North America on Oct. 30th 2012.
If it isn't $250 at launch I have no hope for it. The console is ripe for current gen ports and there really aren't any great big exclusives to sell the system at the moment. It really just seems like a current-gen Wii...
I predict they ditch the touchscreen and go for a drill or a rotary phone
Fingers cross for your prediction!
Here's my wish list:
- Online play for Pikmin 3.
- Retro's newest game (either a new Metroid (but not a Prime), Donkey Kong, or Starfox).
- More info on exclusives by third parties, like Rayman Legends and Project P-100.
- A new Mario game (that's worth my attention)
- A new Metroid (not directed, produced, written, or designed by Sakamoto)

This is obviously wishfull thinking. I don't expect Nintendo to be smart enough to integrate online gameplay in a franchise like Pikmin, or to have any good idea, really.
I predict the haters are gonna hate.
My prediction:

I run to gamestop and preorder.

Just a hunch
Either a really awesome stream at 7am for some reason, or hope followed by crushing disappointment followed by acceptance and an emptying of wallets around the world.
PAIN.

This it was all a cleaver rouse disguising their payback to us for Hiroshima and Nagasaki? ;)
Oh, and show me more mario U. I need that game inside me.
Trailers for games we've already seen and maybe,MAYBE a teaser for the new Smash Bros.
I predict...boredom.
My prediction is that I'll get a boner that destroys the zipper on my pants.
NEW GAMES!!!
I predict I will be in attendance because I live in NYC.
Chad, I think your predictions are spot on.
Let's hope your predictions are true Chad, because I believe those are all completely necessary for the Wii U to even have a chance at doing well.
I gonna say it'll be $299-$349 and a Nov 18 release date.
Besides, if Micro$oft can sell a 4GB XBox 360 w/ Kinect for $299, then Nintendo can sell the WiiU for $300-$350.
I think it will be a fun event
@Stealth
Damnit Stealth type in ALL of your Predictions before hitting that "ADD COMMENT" button.

#Back on topic

I predict that there's a secret that needs to be shared tomorrow, and I hope my European friends don't have to paid more than the American side of things.

And I also predict that the presentation is not going to be good enough fo- Wait I don't have to finish this sentence.

You can already guess what I'm about to say.
I bet they will still go high and hit $299. They can't help themselves and probably believe people will think that the Gamepad warrants the extra price for it's "Innovation". Just don't think people are going to get the same wow factor from the gampade. Too many devices already look like the gamepad and selling the two screen thing won't come through until they get the thing on Ellen.
@rover

shut up, I missed one. Sue me
I predict Reggie giving Traskin the old deep throat and Traskin preordering whatever SKU includes a pro pad.
Sounds dirty? Thats because Reggie's a dirty mother fucker.
Junkyard dirty.
Can't wait to play those great launch titles again.
I predict that Retro Studios will show us that BADASS games that they've been working on but APPARENTLY had pulled from E3.

SOCKS WILL BE BLOWN OFF. ALL THE WAY OFF.

And also.

Monolith Soft will announce that BADASS Wii U JRPG that they've been working on!!!

When it comes to Nintendo, I can't help but be an optimist.
