New Rayman Legends videos show off GamePad features

Chad Concelmo

Nintendo just released a pair of new videos for upcoming Wii U exclusive Rayman Legends and they look fiiiiiiiine (I said that while holding my hand on my mouth and leaning back all cool like).

The main gameplay video above shows off much of the same stuff we saw at E3 2012, mainly how another player controls specific aspects of the game with the Wii U GamePad. There are some additional levels shown as well as some new, fun multiplayer scenarios. As someone who got to play this game at E3, I have to say the "asymmetrical" gameplay stuff is unique, clever, and an absolute joy to play.

There is another video interview with creator Michel Ancel detailing some of the new Wii U features after the jump. Check it out! It's worth watching.

I can't wait to play more of Rayman Legends. I am definitely picking this up with my shiny new Wii U when it is released later this year.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

I'm looking at that shield level and I'm thinking, "Ok, if I wanted to play this by myself(like I did with Origins)...how is that gonna work? Am I gonna be looking down at the screen in my hand and constantly touching the shield while trying to platform/run/attack?"

Because that doesn't sound very fun at all.
Yeah, I want to play this game alone, and if my girlfriend plays with me she's going to want to be actually playing, like we did with Origins.

I'm sure the game is completely fine without the gamepad but I really want to hear some confirmation from Ubisoft.

A lot of the fun I had with the first game was trying to get every lum and completing every challenge, completing the whole game. Will that not be possible without the sidekick mode on Legends? That would be a huge bummer.
Base on what I've seen, it looks like those music levels are going to replace the levels where you chased after the chest.

And I'm okay with that. This game is going to be amazing.
@Ninja In Distress and caramelzappa,
There is a completely separate single-player mode. All of this GamePad stuff is multiplayer only. The single-player game is played with the Xbox 360-esque Wii U Pro Controller. The mode is just like Origins. :)
@Chad

Thanks for the clarification. I wish they'd show more of that mode.
I'm just worried about how much of the game will require 2 people. I don't want half of a game I can play by myself, with the other half I have to beg my friends to stop playing black ops 2 to play as a frog fairy to help me cut ropes. I can only imagine if 2 of Wind Waker's dungeons were made optional and required the tingle tuner to complete, or if they made 20 of the stars in Mario Galaxy require someone to use the second wii remote. "BUT IT'S OKAY BECAUSE IT'S OPTIONAL, YOU CAN BEAT THE GAME, EVEN THOUGH YOU'LL ONLY BE ABLE TO COMPLETE 80 PERCENT OF IT!"
Thanks for that, Chad. Origins is my favorite game of 2011, and the only thing stopping me from getting hyped is if my single player experience would be hampered by new touch screen/multiplayer mechanics.

I guess this is a Tomb Raider: Guardian of the Light situation, two campaigns with some modifications depending on single or co-op
I hope it is only a timed exclusive. Rather enjoyed Origins on PC.

Ugh, we're going to be getting hit with a bunch of this exclusive crap soon, aren't we, with the PS4/720 coming up? How annoying.
God that Michel Ancel is a rainbow full of happiness.
So basically I'm fucked in one player, like littlebigplanet
Mechel Ancel is just soo fucking nice :P

Aliens: Colonial Marines dev diary promises authenticity

Developer diaries really make me cringe. They're really just a studio masturbating on camera for a few minutes. It's especially bad with this Aliens: Colonial Marines one, because really the underlying message is, "We met Ridley Scott and you didn't, f*ck you!"  Still, there's some cool Aliens stuff in there for fans. Watch it if you want.   more
