Here's what you can do in Mass Effect 3 with the Kinect

Hamza CTZ Aziz, Director of Communications
8:30 PM on 03.05.2012

Mass Effect 3 is going to offer some Kinect features on the Xbox 360 and Tara Long gave us a quick little hands-on impression. As you can see, it's just some simple voice options where you can give your teammates some simple commands or use it to switch weapons. It's much like Halo: Anniversary's Kinect integration, in fact.

Our review for Mass Effect 3 will be live tonight at midnight here on Destructoid and we'll have a couple of additional video reviews hitting our YouTube channel as well. The wait is almost over!

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

Even if I had a Kinect, radial menu all the way for me. I can kind of imagine myself using voice commands to direct squadmates to move though. I never really got the hang of using the d-pad to issue movement commands, so the Kinect might help a little tactically in that case.
I don't think this is for me. like IIort het said I don't feel right voice out commands knowing later I will be cussing a storm after I die in a cheap manor. Which mind you will be a lot in my case.
Why does it require a $100 dollar piece of hardware to do voice commands when every 360 comes with a mic?
First impressions:
pointless addition due to speed in which it takes to actuvate the commands speed is the diffrence between restart and moving on to die at the next wave of enemies they throw at you.

you could say it will make it easier for lower difficulties but at normal dificulties you dont need powers you just hit auto cast and itl go fine.

plus it will only seem a bonus cos xbox radial shit is soo poor itl seems better to voice it. pc ftw in controls.
So basically, we're not missing a damn thing. I figured as much. I have to choke back laughter every time I hear the phrase "better with Kinect." If you want to blow smoke up someone's ass, at least make it LOOK like you aren't bullshitting for dollars.
NOT suprising ME3 is better with kinect for a reason MY little bro is really excited to play it for that reason told him his kinect purchase is finaly payin off hehe
Jimmy, why you refer to yourself as "MY little bro"? You know you bought that shit so you could tell Wrex to shake his tail scales.
Even though I will easily be able to find out tomorrow, I wonder if you can string sentences together with the ACTION words mixed in. Such as , "God damn these filthy Reapers, I need my f***** SHOTGUN!!!" or "You stupid Freddy Prince soundalike JAMES, FOLLOW ME you piece of S***!!!"
Cool enough addition I suppose, if I end up getting the 360 version tomorrow (which I imagine I will to finish off my character) then I might use it for a bit. I'll use it in combination with the wheel although the delay might get frustrating.

@Neph
A tagline designed to sell something? Shocker!
OH dayum i forgot the new dude was called JAMES Vega NICE hes gona be my fave character for sure now
@rico

No, it's not a shocker. That's why it's so funny. They could have chosen a more convincing phrase. Like "Shout at blue bitches exclusively with Kinect." That I could buy. :P
I was impressed with how natural the voice commands felt on the demo. Plus it leaves your hands free for an adult beverage
@ TheNephilym

Bet ur just afraid that gamin will never be the same
I love Tara, and she did a great job with this video. But holy shit, Kinect, with the emphasis on "shit." There was seriously like a two-second lag every time a voice command was given. Boy, I'd love to give a voice command to a fellow soldier while I'm taking a hundred extra bullets SITTING THERE AND WAITING for my teammate to do what I told him/her to do.
"gamin will never be the same"

@Jimmy

Nope. No worries there. As long as Microsoft continues to waste time on a useless peripheral instead of improving the actual console and helping push the industry into a new generation, this shit will never change. But hey, at least we can tell Freddy Prince to whip out his pistol, am I right?
Kinect = $100 mic
Kinect is poo. Jajajajjaajjajajajaja
@TheNephilym I agree! Honestly, I couldn't care less for these stupid "features". It seems like Microsoft is trying really hard to get us to recognize the Kinect as a "must-have". It's just an insipid piece of hardware that will not go farther than what it has "accomplished" so far. Damn, I used quotation marks three times. D:
"Special boobies" at 2:13.
@jimboxxx

You're right, gaming will never be the same. If Kinect becomes a staple, we can all be sure gaming will be in the toilet in no time.
Kinect is in fact a piece of garbage. Why the bitch in the video won't openly admit it is beyond me!
that's not a bitch - that's tara long!
also, that's some stellar work on the header frame. that's a double death warrant.
Hahahah, poor Tara.
As much as I use the voice commands for everything that allows for it (to the point that I find myself wondering why my other devices are so steadfast in ignoring my verbal prompts) I can totally see myself using this. I'd prefer the smooth action of shouting commands as opposed to pausing every few seconds to issue them with the controller. Good on them for not shoe horning this stuff in though, as people's preferences will obviously vary. (Although strangely some people are so assured of their opinion on entirely subjective matter as to unilaterally refuse to acknowledge that alternative opinions exist. Charming lot, that bunch.)
Odd couldn't the voice commands be done with a regular headset? If so shouldn't this feature be available on all platforms.
My sister got me a Kinect for Christmas and honestly, the only fun I've had with it was when I played the Gunstringer.. I tried out the ME3 demo with the Kinect and it blew.
+1 kinect
Is fornicate a command word as well? would love to see how would that work out.
" Liara - fornicate - tree!!!"
Ha, the possibilities
@Xeenos,

I was thinking exactly the same. This isn't a Kinect thing. It's a microphone thing that could be done on PC & PS3 for anybody with a headset. Somebody just paid a publisher to get it exclusive.

If you enjoy this sort of thing, cool, but it sure is an expensive microphone.
I wish I could just say "fire bullets" instead. I keep glancing at the word and I have no clue how to pronounce it.
