I love what Sony is doing with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, but I have a hard time finding the appeal of playing it on such a small screen.

The visuals hold up surprisingly well on Sony's handheld, with only some slight downgrades in shadow detail. Despite having one of the best mobile screens in the industry, it's hard to keep up with the off-the-walls action of All-Stars. I really had to strain my eyes to follow what was going on. It's great that Sony is able to port the game and allow cross-play between the Vita and PS3, but I would stick to the console version of this one. Some games, no matter how much technology advances, just aren't fit for portable devices.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

I think the reason is to gets someone's money twice.
Having all these ports are not necessarily bad because options are alwaya great. BUT IT IS BAD because fucking sony isnt focusing more on originality. There needs to be a balance and unfortunately there isn't right now:-(
Because the Vita has no gamezes and all stars looks like shit in terms of art design and graphics so it was probably an easy port.
I can say the same for alot of handheld games. Uncharted and Killzone both seem wasted on tiny screens.
I fear this will be the same with Super Smash Bros 3DS...
Because fighting games belong on the Vita. The Vita has the best Dpad going now. Perfect for fighters.
Why put any game on a handheld?? Why the hell even play video games in the first place??
Why put it on a handheld? You might as well be questioning why handhelds exists. People like to take their games on the go.

Is it really that hard to grasp?
i bought some cool trigger grips that snap onto my vita and they make playing fighting games (by that I mean Blazblue) really easy and fun
This is such a dumb question. You might as well change the title to "Games can be played on Vita, but why". We've had handhelds with multiplatform games for the longest. No need to ask stupid questions.
i dont see it either ( dont throw rocks)
The other thing about this is the "small screen" arguement. Do you not understand perspective? A 5" screen is a foot away from your face, a 40" tv is usually 10-15 feet away. Here's a hint: Things that are closer appear to be larger.
what caramelzappa said....
Agreerz. Maybe too small. But looks beautiful.
Really? So you guys are going to pretend like creating the logical fallacy of taking what Allistair said to its extreme, then using that extreme to refute a point he never made, is somehow a valid argument? Seriously?

How about you use some reading comprehension skills (I know, reading and comprehending 2 whole plainly spoken paragraphs is rough), and understand that he means this particular game may not be so suited to a small screen, regardless of how far the screen is from your face.

Seriously, this may have been the most ignorant E3 comment thread yet.
Well to be fair I think this kind of gameplay lends itself perfectly to the Vita. It's very jump in pick up and play.
Y u mad, OneRed? ;)
@onered: cry more

And for allstair... maybe some people want to play it on the vita? It's a rather silly question. Maybe some people will want to play this game while taking a poop?
Was this really article worthy?

Goddamn, find something more meaningful to cry about. Some people like to game on the go.
Then there's the fact that it's only $40 on Vita. Gimme all the console ports, I don't care.
That's kinda asking why you would play any duel release on a handheld when you can use your tv.

Why? Why not? If you enjoy your handheld you enjoy it.
Now now, Trist. You've been Dr. Grumpypants all week, don't throw stones.

@free touch

Except he never once called into question the value of a portable game, only that this one in particular may not be a great fit. Having played a bunch of Smash Bros on a 7" screen, I think I know what he means when he says it's hard to follow the action. The levels seem to scale depending on where people are situated, which can lead to characters becoming very small and very hard to follow.

It's entirely a legitimate point (one of the first things I thought of when they were talking about the game being on the Vita).
Probably true. Something about E3 just brings out the worst in people doesn't it? Wish it wasn't so. Still totally fair game to make fun of each other for it though.
Oh man! You have a personal opinion you're voicing on the internet? And you're qualified to voice it on the front page? You should just listen to all the others not liking your opinion.

Sarcasm aside, I agree. Yeah, it's most likely going to be good, but why not make it into something different? The Vita has had a few unique games, but lots of what we have and are seeing are ports of upcoming or already existing games. It could be a spinoff of the same game, like Nintendo has hinted with Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U. Make it different but similar enough to have cross play in one way or another.

That's my opinion at least. Gonna hide under this pile of flame retardant coats now. I hope they're flame retardant...
No Mario no sale

sony y no mario in dis
I'll take it on Vita over PS3. Why?

1. OLED screen
2. Wireless handheld play is perfect for an online competitive game with shorter matches
3. $20 less than PS3 version
4. I can't see dedicating time to this on a home console with a big tv when I can play the next big, epic game to be released
So will you feel the same way when smash bros comes to 3ds.

what cha gonna do when hogan comes all over you? Brother
Some people don't have a PS3. We can't all work in the video game sector with access to free games or consoles in our offices.
we need more games for the vita but i would like to see less ports and more original titles. look at nintendo, you have alot of great titles for the console but the hand held version carries titles of its own such as pokemon (the best are handheld titles) prof layton, most of the kirby titles and legend of zelda (with toon link), KIU and much much more. for as many of its titles are sucky cash in's from 3rd party deves (like the ones that you cut hair in or the millions of nintendog knock off's) the're some real good titles like fossil fighters and SMT devil survivor that help it along. that is what the vita needs.
I don't own a Vita, but still a pretty cool addition.
I'm used to sitting a foot away from a 26" 1920x1200 monitor. Unless my nose is touching the screen a handheld isn't going to compare to that view lol.
I hate this kind of attitude.
Saying that it's hard to see or make out what's going on is fair criticism. I had the exact same complaints with SSBB and LKS on Wii. Questioning a game's existence on a handheld short on games is just counterproductive. You can't fix or change games that don't exist. (And what does this mean for a 3DS Smash Bros if even the Vita has problems?)
That's sort of my reaction to 90% of current handheld games--cutting edge HD visuals on a 3" screen just don't make any sense to me. Why anyone would want to play an fps, fighter, or action/adventure game on a cramped handheld is baffling. The games that seem to work best on handhelds imo are games you tend to play for around 30 minutes at a time and can pick up and put down anytime you want, like interacting novels (Hotel Dusk) and turnbased strategy RPGs (FFT, Tactics Ogre). Not coincidentally, such games don't require much in the way of graphical horsepower to be engaging--which is probably why so many consumers are reluctant to pick up a 3DS or Vita.
So we could have the game on Vita for people who actually want it who will buy it and play it who don't have your complaints, or we could not have the game at all so no one could ever play it on the go even if they wanted to and are willing to pay for it.

Can't say I quite understand why this is even worthy of a news post. Options are good. If people want it, give it to them. So you have complaints. Good for you. The answer to your question is simple: Sony thinks people will buy it. End of story.
Not a prob. I will play this on my bed with my face pressed right up on the screen anyways. :D
Why not?
@The Silent Protagonist Its a cross play game which means you pay once for both the PS3 Version and PSVita version... Just like MLB, Hustle Kings & Wipeout. You only pay twice if you buy the hard copies...
It does make sense because you can take it on the go, cross play etc. People wanted this for a long time. What doesn't make sense is the problem that people like this are having with the idea. I think people are very confused on how you can use Vita in your daily life. Even 3ds is getting Smash Bros so yeah... People always complain about the small screen... I really don't understand people like that.
