Defiance trailer blurs lines between TV and game mediums

TRION World's Defiance is a rather bold idea, pairing a television show with a massively multiplayer online game on the promise of players being able to impact the whole of the story through their actions. The game's E3 trailer, seen above, demonstrates this by combining footage from the upcoming Syfy Channel program with that of the game.

I love that this is a thing, that the interactivity of videogames can inform the direction of a completely different type of storytelling. It is the sort of experimental direction which has incredible potential but seems a tremendous leap of faith considering the logistics and financial investment, which makes it all the more exciting. I'm not terribly eager to play an MMO-rooted shooter but nothing would please me more than to see it become a huge success, if only to prove that it can be done.

The heroes will always Teabag!
Looking good! By good I mean shit. Why is there no Pippin section at the top? The Pippin is not even in the 'More' section.
It's an interesting idea - I like that we're getting stuff like this nowadays, even if the conceit of this one isn't terribly interesting to me. I'm curious to see how it all shakes out.
Interesting concept as a melding of mediums and entertainment. Will be very curious to see how it does even if the game itself doesn't interest me all that much. However, if they want to be successful, they should probably not find music for their trailers by searching through a 13-year-old's party music mix she entitled "My tears are wings".
Yeah, I love watching brilliant new shows on the Syfy channel!
Seems like a lot to bet on an MMO and a SyFy original series. Combining those two things in concept alone makes me wonder if someone is trolling us in a most epic manner.

I would not be surprised if all lines from this show are pulled straight out of Rick Astley's discography.
Suddenly, as the winning player is about to deal the winning kill/shot/whatever, we have the suspense building up and then....
Eye Catch.....We bring you this real-life battery advert, so you can keep on playing your video games e.t.c, now we will return you to your gaming session....Eye Catch. "Press start to continue match."
i dont want to be negative becuse it does look nice... but i cant belive in it.

The taste of that truley C grade Falling skies show is still strong in my mouth. It proves just how hard it is to make a sci fi that isnt set in the woods behind the studio lot.
didnt they do this with the newer red faction game? see how good that worked out.
@fetusmilk

I saw it, it was definetly a sci fi channel original movie.
It's cool on paper, and the creativity is a breath of fresh air for me at least.

More cross-platform stuff needs to happen. I've always thought it would be awesome if they brought out a game where 360 owners could fight against ps3 owners in a never ending war.

I'm not completely naive though; I understand that this would take a ridiculous amount of network coding (if it's even possible), as well as some sort of agreement between Sony and Microsoft.

Still, like the idea above, it's cool to think about.
That sounds awesome but the game looks generic as hell and the show looks low budget.
So how will -=P3NIS_LICKER69=-'s constant teabagging and racial slurrs affect the philosophical development of the plot and characters on the show?
